Hey! Not everyone can be Beyonce.

It’s 2016 (even though we are just 4 days into 2016). People still assume feminist are just man haters. They don’t understand that feminism fights for equality among men and women. They don’t understand that feminism fights for everyone (transwomen,LGBT+, disable, and people of color (etc). Regardless of these facts, there are still women who spit on feminism and continue to think negativlely about it.

Katy Perry

A strong woman is a feminist (Rosie the Riveter hello??). I’m not sure if Katy did her research or not. Additionally, she is saying we do not need feminism (wage gap and rape culture, Katy come on!).

Years later she did decide to claim feminism, but she’s still confused by the whole concept.

““A feminist? Uh, yeah, actually,” she said. “I used to not really understand what that word meant, and now that I do, it just means that I love myself as a female and I also love men.””

— Katy Perry

Lana Del Rey

“For me, the issue of feminism is just not an interesting concept. I’m more interested in, you know, SpaceX and Tesla, what’s going to happen with our intergalactic possibilities. Whenever people bring up feminism, I’m like, god. I’m just not really that interested…My idea of a true feminist is a woman who feels free enough to do whatever she wants.

— Lana Del Rey

The idea of feminism totally repluses Lana. How can fighting for the equality of men and women disgust you?!

She apologized a year later and still made no sense.

“‘The luxury we have as a younger generation is being able to figure out where we want to go from here, which is why I’ve said things like, “I don’t focus on feminism, I focus on the future”.

— Lana Del Rey

Shailene Woodley

In an interview with Time Magazine, she completely denounced feminism.

“No because I love men, and I think the idea of ‘raise women to power, take the men away from the power’ is never going to work out because you need balance. With myself, I’m very in touch with my masculine side. And I’m 50% feminine and 50% masculine, same as I think a lot of us are. And I think that is important to note. And also I think that if men went down and women rose to power, that wouldn’t work either. We have to have a fine balance,

— Shailene Woodley

A year after she said that, she still stuck to her guns and said she still isn’t a feminist.

“The reason why I don’t like to say that I am a feminist or I am not a feminist is because to me it’s still a label. I do not want to be defined by one thing. Why do we have to have that label to divide us? We should all be able to embrace one another regardless of our belief system and regardless of the labels that we have put upon ourselves.

— Shaliene Woodley

Kelly Clarkson

“No, I wouldn’t say feminist — that’s too strong. I think when people hear feminist, it’s like, ‘Get out of my way, I don’t need anyone.’ I love that I’m being taken care of and I have a man that’s a leader. I’m not a feminist in that sense.”

— Kelly Clarkson

She later apologized.

“I was saying that in the past decade, I feel people have associated the word ‘feminist’ with ‘bitch’ and ‘man-hater’ and all these things. And I’m definitely not that girl. That’s what I meant by that. Obviously I believe in female equal rights. I’m not an idiot. I’m a female. I believe in equal rights across the board.”

— Kelly Clarkson

Carrie Underwood

She still isn’t a feminist.

Lady Gaga

““I’m not a feminist. I hail men, I love men, I celebrate American male culture — beer, bars, and muscle cars.””

— Lady Gaga

She later changed her tune and became a feminist.

“I’m certainly a feminist. A feminist to me is somebody that wishes to protect the integrity of women who are ambitious. A feminist in my opinion is somebody that regards that women have a strong intelligence and wisdom. That we are just as great as men — and some of us can be even better. I want to fight for the female performer, the female artist, the female musician. This is the type of feminist that I am: that women can be tremendous artists.”

— Lady Gaga

The most shocking part about these quotes is how far women will go to trash feminism. Really, feminism isn’t harming anyone (unless it’s a radical feminist). It’s still very disappointing that feminism still has a negative reputation. Celebrities like Beyonce are combatting the misconceptions and disgust around feminism. Hopefully one day everyone is a feminist.
