Why We Should Pray For Turkey

Written by Farzeen Navi

If you haven’t already heard, this morning in Turkey an explosion by a suicide bomber occurred in Istanbul killing 5 individuals with at least 20 injured. And if you haven’t heard this already don’t be mad at yourself because there is absolutely no media coverage on it. The loss of innocent people should be something that affects everyone and they deserve the same respect and attention when going through something like a suicide bombing.

Just because Turkey is not a western country doesn’t mean that their situation doesn’t matter. When the Paris attack happened we talked about it for weeks, we were all shocked, upset and even traumatized. The Paris attack was given coverage on every single media outlet for such a long time, and it’s something that people will never forget. People showed respect and they cared, they cared so much that even Facebook decided to create a special feature of the Paris flag that you could put over your profile picture to show respect.

However, where are the flags for Syria, Bahrain, and now Turkey. Just because this country has a population of Muslims doesn’t mean that their tragedy doesn’t matter. It shouldn’t matter what race the people were or what religion they came from. Innocent lives were lost and that’s all that should matter and this is why we need to pray for Turkey and give the attention they deserve and make people aware of a horrible situation that they have gone through.
