Growing up the only role models that looked like me were my mom and Raven-Symoné (and we all know how the latter didn’t pan out very well). Now that I’m older I’ve realized that there are so many black girls out in this world being the inspiration I and so many other girls like me needed

Nicki Minaj
One thing I love about Nicki Minaj is that she’s not afraid to speak her mind and speak up for the black girls. Nicki Minaj may have a fat ass and dress like a “thot” but that in no way makes her less of a role model. If anything, Nicki encourages women to embrace their sexuality because it’s nothing to be ashamed of at all. Nicki Minaj also preaches the importance of education, telling stadiums full of fans and even fans she’s sees during daily life to stay in school because their education should always come first. 2. Kelly Rowland
From her days in Destiny’s Child to her latest role on Empire, Kelly Rowland has always been a big factor in my life and the LOML. Recently, one of Destiny’s children talked about how she wanted to see more dark-skinned girls in the industry and I couldn’t help but smile. She praises Normani Kordei of Fifth Harmony, Michelle Obama, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson for being her role models and also amazing role models for young dark-skinned girls.
3. Cardi B
Cardi B’s shenanigans on the latest season of Love & Hip Hop made the world fall in love with her. Before that, many of us just knew her from the “a hoe never gets cold” vine. Cardi’s behavior and fun antics on LHH were nice but her intelligence didn’t go unnoticed either. On this season’s reunion special of Love & Hip Hop, Cardi B didn’t sugarcoat a thing and let womanizer Peter Gunz know how she felt about his behavior on the show
