Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Chris Brown: Focus On Your Own Relationships

On Monday, the internet showed just how negative it can truly be. R&B artist PartyNextDoor posted a photo on Instagram of him in bed with fell artist Kehlani. The internet blew up. Apparently, Kehlani has been in a relationship with Cavaliers basketball player Kyrie Irving. After PartyNextDoor posted this photo, the internet started to speculate that Kehlani was cheating on Kyrie, whether she did or not, we may never know. She said they were broken up. This sparked a debate on double standards; how come men are called dogs, but women aren’t? The conversations that ensued were very misogynistic, and disgusting. Kehlani deleted her Instagram and Twitter, but even still she felt the hate that was circulating around the internet. Later on in the night; we found out she attempted suicide. Mental illness is a real thing. Many people believed she faked it for attention, even if she did, it’s a cry out for help. Depression is very real.

Everyone had something to say about the situation, whether it was a positive comment or negative, everyone had one. Even people who had no business in it, like Chris Brown. Early tonight, Chris Brown began tweeting about Kehlani, he said she attempted suicide for attention and a string of other disgusting comments. The issue here is, well Chris Brown isn’t Kehlani, nor PartyNextDoor nor Kyrie Irving, so he had no place inserting his two cents. The second problem is Chris Brown is a posterchild for toxic and overall horrible relationships. His relationship with Pop star Rihanna was toxic for many years, so toxic that it led up to him nearly killing her in a domestic altercation they had in 2009. In 2012, Rihanna and Chris reunited and were seen out at a Lakers game front row snuggling. Around this time he was still dating Karrueche Tran.

For many years, Chris Brown has been a toxic character, usually having sporadic meltdowns. His relationship with Karrueche Tran has always made headlines, not for positive reasons but negative. She has noted many times that Chris is toxic, in fact she broke up with him after finding out that he got another woman pregnant WHILE he was still in a relationship with Karrueche. Since their breakup, Chris Brown has continually stalked Karrueche. He has done things like knocking on her door in the middle of the night; even waiting for her. outside of the club. He even called her name on a song on his latest album Royalty. Just last week he belittled Karrueche, a woman he is no longer in a relationship with.

So why does Chris Brown feel like he can comment on the relationships of other people? I’m not sure, but you can’t throw rocks when you live in a glass house. Chris Brown’s negative comments towards Kehlani are fueling the hate she has been getting. His young fans latch onto his every word, he is someone that is influential, so by bullying Kehlani, he is inciting more hate towards her via his fans. He doesn’t truly understand the power he has. Chris Brown suffers from a lot of arrogance, he feels as though what he says matters more than the feelings of others. Additionally, Chris Brown has a child that he claims changed him. For the sake of his child, I hope he learns to choose his battles wisely.

This week, social media showed just how dark it can get; bullying is very real online and the results are real. I hope one day Chris Brown learns how to focus on himself, rather than other people. His input was not needed because when we talk about sensitive topics, we do not ask; damn what would Chris Brown think of this?
