From Ke$ha To F**k Donald Trump: Coachella Was Pretty Political This Weekend

F**k Donald Trump!

Over 20,000 people stood in a crowd and yelled “F**k Donald Trump!” Ke$ha performed onstage for the first time since her court hearing with Dr. Luke. And all of this surprisingly happened at Coachella. Coachella, has  come a long way from when it first began. It has made a name for itself as one of the biggest music festivals in the world. It’s known for the large amount of cultural appropriation by both celebrity and civilians, the infamous Beyoncé/ Solange Knowles performance, and even the strict camping rules but never ever has it been known for it’s influence on political enlightenment.

While it’s not a big deal that over 20,000 people showed their hatred for Donald Trump (thousands more are still willing to vote for him), it is a big deal that it was done at such a public event. When YG started the chant and followed through with a catchy beat, the crowd was more than ready to start screaming with him. It was loud, it was aggressive, and it was done at an event where people go for fun; not politics. Nobody wants to think about Trump’s possible presidency while listening to their favorite band but, no matter how far into the desert we go we can’t get away from what’s happening in the world but that we shouldn’t lose hope.

And as for Ke$ha’s performance. It speaks volumes. While she can’t legally produce new music, it seems she can legally perform at Coachella. The singer came out as a surprise performance with DJ Zedd. He tweeted earlier that he had a surprise. later that night Ke$ha graced the stage and sang Zedd’s “True Colors” before a very supportive audience. It was powerful and electric and it showed that the singer hasn’t lost hope yet either. She went to Twitter to say, “Tonight has a magic to it” and she was right.

Coachella has a huge platform and while right now it’s known for a few negative things, performances like these show that it doesn’t have to be that way. We can all trek through the desert and listen to awesome music and also be involved in something special. Coachella can be so much more than a really expensive concert, it can be a revolutionary event. So yeah, f**k Donald Trump and congratulations to Ke$ha.
