I know what you eat. I know what you wear. I know where you go, who you are with, and why you are there. I know every last detail about you. I know the minute you were born. I revolve my life around you. I am going to find you. But, I love you.

Uncomfortable? Well, this is the feeling mega-famous celebrities of our day and age have to go through on a daily basis. We can see this most recently through Justin Bieber who just uploaded a post on Instagram.

He declared he will not be taking photos with fans from now on. While the “Sorry” singer may have phrased it a bit too harshly, one can understand it is due the pressure of the obligation of having to take a picture with every single fan he comes across.

Being one of the most popular faces means being stopped everywhere you go. No disguise is ever enough. No apology will ever stop a stampede of fans from forcing you into taking a photo with them. Bieber has been internationally famous since 2009. He must have gone through a lot of uncomfortable and hectic situations to conclude that he will not take a picture with any fan, despite them buying his album and fully supporting him. In a lot of fan encounters, celebrities get unpleasantly harassed and fans do not notice, which is what drove him to this conclusion.

Fans sometimes forget that celebrities are not just faces that show up to high-profile events and provide products for entertainment. They have emotions, thoughts, and fears. Living in the internet age, all their fans know about these feelings, and their preferences, and their future, present, and past. It gets overwhelming at one point or another, which is why Bieber previously retired from music and is now withdrawing from taking pictures with fans.

There should be boundaries to what a fan knows or gives away about a celebrity. They also should keep in mind their personal space, or else the outcome ends up being as extreme as Bieber’s. Finally, fans should respect their idols because so many others do not. If fans want their favourite celebrities to go on strong, they should compensate for the invalid hatred they get online, rather than worsen it.

Just remember, no one wants to wake up knowing that they will never be able to see their idol up close, and it is partially their fault.
