Kanye: Picasso or Problematic?

Kanye West, to many  is a musical genius. I have to give it to him props, nearly all of his songs are hits. He believes that he is great, even comparing himself to Pablo Picasso. His most recent album, “The Life of Pablo” by Kanye has reached the ears of millions, many falling in love with every song. But do they actually listen to the lyrics? After closely examining some songs, I can simply say Kanye 2020 is a no go.

  1. “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made that b***h famous”                                                                               The first of many mysoginistic lyrics made by Kanye, and by far the most renown of his new album. This line of the song Famous focuses on how Kanye takes credit for Taylor Swifts fame. How did Kanye ignite Taylor’s fame? He probably believes that his rude way of interrupting her speech at the MTV music awards in 2010 may have been the reason. Funny enough, she was already receiving an award that night, so sorry Yeezy, you can’t take credit for this one, but you can take the title of Hollywood’s Biggest Jerk.
  2. “For all my n****s with babies by bitches/That use they kids as meal tickets”                                                                                 Kanye strikes again, implying that all women use their children as a way to make money. In his song,”No More Parties”, he takes a jab at ex Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa by mentioning having kids for money. News flash, not every woman is in desperate need to “trap” their man.
  3. “That p*ssy should only be holding exclusive rights to me, I mean/He flew you in this motherf**ker on first class”                                                                                                                                                                                                            In “No More Parties”, Kanye states that because a man treats a woman to something, in this case a plane ride, she owes him sex. This is obviously wrong since a man is not, in any way, shape or form, entitled to a woman’s body. Consent is something Kanye’s songs need to acknowledge. Excuse me, we don’t owe you jack.

4.”I bet me and Ray J would be friends, If we ain’t love the same b*tch. Yeah, he might have hit it first,
Only problem is I’m rich”
There are so many problems with these lyrics off the song “High lights”. For one, he calls his wife a b*tch. To many, it may not seem all that offensive, but he needs to realize how disrespectful that is. Also, he implies that Kim is a gold digger by being with him. Need I remind you Kim Kardashian is worth, according to Forbes, over 52 million dollars! I think she’d be perfectly stable without you Kanye!

5. “Do anybody feel bad for Bill Cosby?”

The icing on the cake really, in the song “Facts”, Kanye tackles a very problematic issue. Instead of doing the right thing,                 and NOT victim blaming, he decides to take the side of attacker. Not taking into account the state of Cosby’s victims, Kanye                     supports the man that put so many women through such a tragic experience.

These are only a handful of the many bad lyrics hidden by a good beat in Kanye’s music. It’s hard to hate him, when he has hits like American Boy and Gold Digger (which is again problematic), but people need to be more aware of what they are listening to and what the message of his songs actually are.
