Dear People of Color (although I’m not sure who that includes):*This is satire

I’m not doing anything wrong. Also, wasn’t it wrong a few years ago to use the “color” word because it brought up bad memories of Jim Crowe? You guys are so confusing, changing the meaning of the “n” word, and now this.

Anyway, I don’t see what I have to change. No one ever tells me not to say the “n” word when we’re listening to all my favorite Jay-Z songs anymore; they just look at me with a side eye and move on. I don’t say stereotypical jokes that often, and is it really stereotypical if it’s true? All my Hispanic/latino friends look like this Mexican guy who works at the corner store, and they all speak the same language anyway. Common mistake. I’m used to them correcting me, so why aren’t they used to it too? And newsflash, Asians: comedians have been using funny Chinese-sounding voices for ages. It shouldn’t be offensive when I do it as a joke. It’s not hard to see that the world is changing. The definition of political correctness is being bent into something else. The lines are blurred. White people are made fun of all the time. They get ridiculed for even trying to be good at all the things black people can do. Their complexion is compared to printer paper and the young girls feel so much pressure to get a tan to feel accepted. The constant jokes about not having a culture and not seasoning their food drive them to self-hatred. It’s hurtful to see all the black kids get picked first for basketball teams, while all the Chinese kids get picked first for the math teams. Where do white people fit? When will they be looked at as contributing members of society? How long will it take for all of you to realize that everyone else is the problem? I spent all of high school learning about the slave trade and Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King, but why do we learn so much about them when they didn’t contribute anything to our prevailing governmental or educational systems? Why aren’t our youth more grateful to the hundreds of white men and women running the American government so valiantly all these years? Why be so resentful? They should be focusing on why their so-called intelligent minority parents and children aren’t striving for better careers that can help this nation. And now, our cops risk their lives every day so you people can live in comfort, and they are returned with hatred and murder. Sure, white privilege is real, but only because that’s what white people have worked for all these years since America took its independence. If minorities had the same values at the time, maybe now it would be called Latino privilege or Black privilege. But that just isn’t the case. You want change? It doesn’t start with me making you more comfortable to be who you are. You have to find the confidence to be yourself while including others, instead of fighting with white people all the time. It’s not my job to learn more about you. Because it isn’t my fault that you feel like you’ve been placed under oppression. Use your free will and free yourself. I’m not doing anything wrong.

Your friend,

Ignorance
