Even Though He Lost the Democratic Primary, Bernie is Still Changing Our Nation for the Better

In terms of the Democratic Primary, America chose Hillary Clinton as their democratic candidate. But that’s old news. She will face her conservative opponent on the ballot in November.

The democratic primary ended up going to the very end. Bernie Sanders didn’t stand down until the Democratic convention, refusing to go out before his campaign was formally over. However, once her victory was triumphed, the media dropped his name almost overnight.

As is expected. The old sayings go, “history is written by the winners”, “nice guys finish last”, “no one remembers second place”, etc. There’s no point in carrying on about the candidate who lost, it would divert the focus from the democratic contender in the presidential election, right? But from someone who was rooting for the underdog candidate and aligned more closely to Sanders’ platform more than Clinton’s, I wanted to check up on how he was doing. You don’t really hear the follow up on when presidential contenders lose. So what now?

Well, Sanders is still the senator from Vermont, but that doesn’t mean he’s lost his vision on a national scale. As expected, he’s still promoting his platform, just not from the presidential perspective.

As he made his closing remarks, Sanders released a name for his new project and website called ourrevolition.com. It’s an efficient way to promote his platform and easy for those to find a way to further get involved in implementing Sanders’ proposed policies. It gives detailed explanations of his positions on issues, gives resources for volunteer work, and the most interesting part of the site: “our candidates”.

Sanders compiled a list of endorsed local representatives that closely mirror his platform. Sanders’ supporters can find out how to elect local legislators that match with the platform of their desired presidential candidate.

I admire how, although he lost on a national scale, Sanders sees the benefit of helping smaller, local legislators. It’s not just important to vote for the presidential election, but for local elections as well. Although it’s much easier to ignore the smaller elections that don’t get near as much media coverage, Sanders doesn’t belittle their importance in politics.

The site is pretty efficient on how to find more information and how to get involved with people from your state with various email lists. The primary may be over, but Sanders supporters can still find a way to implement his platform on a local scale.

For the Bernie Bros who are heartbroken and still want to get involved, don’t worry; he’s still bernin’.
