The second presidential debate of the 2016 election led to quotable moments, hilarious SNL skits, and even more nationwide anxiety for the future of our country. Despite all of these memorable moments, one of the most talked about parts of the debate was Donald Trump’s guests of choice. Trump invited at least 3 of Bill Clinton’s sexual assault accusers to join him in the debate audience. But the guest list did not stop there. For the final presidential debate held on October 19th, Trump invited President Barack Obama’s Kenyan born half-brother Malik Obama to be his guest of choice. With Trump spending his time diverting voter’s attention to these people, it doesn’t seem like he knows exactly who he is up against.
Bill Clinton’s past of sexual assault accusations is nothing that should be taken lightly. The former president has been accused of sexual misconduct a number of times, by a number of different women. These women’s voices deserve to be heard, and their stories deserved to be listened to.
However awful Bill Clinton’s past of sexual assault has been, Donald Trump, as well as voters, must remember one key point: Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton are not the same people. The fact that Trump continuously uses the sexual assault allegations against Bill Clinton as a political pawn against Hillary is completely and utterly sexist.
It has long been socially wrong, and forever been morally wrong, to attach women to their husbands, and not think of them as their own people.
Hillary Clinton has a mind of her own, a hefty political resume of her own, and a voice that deserves to be heard aside from Bill Clinton.
Malik Obama, the half-brother of the current president, is an avid supporter of Donald Trump. Trump appeals to Malik Obama because the candidate is a Republican, and as Obama himself puts it, “they don’t stand for same-sex marriage, and that appeals to me.” First of all, Obama hasn’t seemed too keen on the sanctity of marriage when he married between three and twelve wives. All at the same time.
Malik Obama is the antithesis of what Trump’s campaign has been based on. Obama is Kenyan born, living in an area plagued by Islamic terrorism, in addition to practicing Islam himself. By these standards, Trump would not even want this man entering the United States. But when it comes to slandering President Obama, not even Hillary Clinton, he is all for Malik’s unyielding support.
Donald Trump needs to focus his remarks on sexual assault directly to Bill Clinton. Donald Trump needs to drop the slander against President Obama. With his poll numbers on the steady decline, Donald Trump should evaluate who he is really running against.
