Hillary Roasts Trump at Al Smith Dinner

The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner began in 1945 as a yearly commemoration of the first Catholic democratic presidential candidate and to raise money for Catholic charities that benefit children in need. Many future presidents have spoken at this dinner to take a break from the campaign trail and do humanitarian work.

The dinner has a religious affiliation, but that did not seem to be an issue until Donald tried to make it one by declaring that Mrs. Clinton hates Catholics. Hillary is a Methodist and Donald is a Catholic, so it may have been assumed the crowd would favor Trump. Ironically, “The Donald” was booed repeatedly.

The Donald seemed to forget that he was at a playful charity dinner and not a Trump Rally. Trump took the dinner too seriously and decided to use it to throw mud instead of throw shade.

Even when everyone was booing Donald, Hillary threw him a bone and laughed anyway. In fact, she may have laughed the hardest.

Of course when they go low we go high and Hillary stuck to the script and poked fun at herself and The Donald.

My personal favorite Hillary joke  is:

“Donald wanted me drug tested before last night’s debate. And look, I’ve got to tell you, I am so flattered that Donald thought I used some sort of performance enhancer. Now, actually, I did. It’s called preparation.”

I hit the floor in a ball of laughter. Oh no, she didn’t. She didn’t just say that. Hillary didn’t come to play.

The Donald forced a smile but never laughed.

Hillary did use some of her time to address some more serious issues, but she never attacked her opponent outside of a punch line. This just proves that Hillary has better etiquette to deal with international relations than Donald ever could. Imagine if this was a more serious United Nations meeting and not a light-hearted dinner. Trump would have been solely responsible for the declaration of World War III. But of course, what should we expect when he snapped in the third debate and called Hillary “a nasty woman.”

The next time Trump plans to speak at an event like this, he may want to use some more discretion. Or at least some better jokes.
