With the amount of superhero movies that have been released in this past year, there’s very little space in one’s mind to care or look forward to anymore. There was of course Batman v. Superman which could have possibly been one of the biggest critical failures of the year, or let’s not forget the action packed Suicide Squad, which both seem to be twinning in ‘reviews’ sections and have an almost exact Rotten Tomatoes score (mid-high 20s). However, we have the highest possible hope with the releases of 2017 films Wonder Woman and Black Panther.

In line with Black Panther, news has spread today that Academy-award nominated actress Angela Bassett has officially been added to the cast of the highly anticipated Ryan Coogler-directed film. She is set to play T’Challa’s (Black Panther) mother, Ramonda, who, in the comics, was captured by a man named Anton Prestorius and later rescued by T’Challa himself. The film is also set to star award-winning actors/actresses Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke and Florence Kasumba.

Basset is best known for her rolls Marie Laveau, a voodoo Queen; Desiree Dupree, a three-breasted Freak Show performer; Ramona Royale, a “immortal blaxploitation star” and both Monet Tumusiime and Lee Harris, a veteran Police Officer who are all from American Horror Story. Her long list of movies include films such as What’s Love Got to Do with It, a movie based on the life of singer Tina Turner, Green Lantern and Akeelah and the Bee.
