Right now there are about 200 000 people still living in eastern Aleppo. Despite the fact that there have been reports for almost a month now about how the food is running out, and that people are starving, nothing has been done to help. Jan Egeland a Senior special adviser to the U.N. Envoy for Syria told Amanpour that”It couldn’t be worse.” And it really couldn’t. The thousand of people trapped in freezing cold eastern Aleppo don’t have access to food and can’t get medical treatments because all the hospitals and infrastructure has been purposely destroyed in the bombings. This situation can’t be allowed to continue.

Due of international politics, no outside help is allowed into eastern Aleppo. This is completely unacceptable, intolerable and can not be allowed to continue.

The people living in eastern Aleppo are in need of immediate help, and they could get it if Russia and the Syrian Government were to give the green light. The UN is standing by in Turkey, only an hour away, but can’t do anything because Russia and Syrian Government won’t let them. There are trucks that have been waiting to get food and medical equipment to the people of eastern Aleppo as well as to take the injured to nearby hospitals for almost a week now. Many of the people in Aleppo haven’t been able to get and relief for weeks and are now in on the brink of starvation. The reason that the people of eastern Aleppo are denied aid is that Russia and the Assad regime care more about taking eastern Aleppo from the opposition than the people living there.

“I ask all parties to the conflict to restore basic humanity in Syria,” – Stephen O’Brien, UN

So why will the opposition Aleppo agree to let the UN come with food and not the Russian and Syrian Government? Amanpour theorized on her show that it could be a conscious choice by the Syrian government and the leaders in Moscow to weaken eastern Aleppo so that it will be easier to take it from the opposition. The reason that they are taking to such extreme and horrible measures to seize this part of Aleppo is because they want to gain control over it before Trump become the US president. By not allowing food or any medical relief into eastern Aleppo they are trying to force people to leave it and move to Assad controlled regions of the country. Which as somewhat worked since 16000 people have reportedly fled Aleppo into Assad Controlled regions, however, there is still believed to be about 200 000 people still living in eastern Aleppo.

The White Helmets, a group of volunteers that have saved thousand of people from bombed houses and helped them to safety, told CNN that they couldn’t help anymore because they don’t have any more fuel. With every hospital in Aleppo bombed to the point that they can’t be used, there isn’t anywhere to treat the many wounded people inside Aleppo anymore. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that outside aid is allowed into Aleppo.

“This is a man-made disaster from A to Z. Man can change it, (…) can change it tomorrow.”– Jan Egeland

Jan Egeland is right. This is a man-made disaster and if world leaders would just stop caring so much about their own personal interests the people of Syria wouldn’t have to suffer anymore. The fact that they can’t put their interest aside for a couple of hours to allow aid into Aleppo is really a testament to how horrible the world we live in right now is. People are starving, hurting and dying every day in Aleppo, but they don’t have to. This could end tomorrow if we wanted it enough. This is not a time for politics, but for humanity.
