[dropcap]V[/dropcap]ictoria Secret is the go to brand for sexy. This year, the iconic Victoria Secret fashion show is heading to the city of love, Paris. Over the years, women of color have become more present in their fashion shows. We’ve had Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell strutting their stuff on the runway, and more recently the show has included Maria Borges rocking her natural hair, Jourdan Dunn, Lais Ribeiro, and Liu Wen (just to name a few).
Every year, one lucky angel gets chosen to wear the multi-million dollar “Fantasy Bra”.
This year, for the first time in almost 10 years, a woman of color was chosen! Jasmine Tookes gets to grace the runway in a head turning $3 million dollar emerald encrusted bra.
This is the highest honor for any Victoria Secret Angel to achieve.
What makes this moment even more outstanding is the fact that she is a woman of color. Victoria Secret has come under fire for lacking diversity. Having a woman of color wear the fantasy bra by no means “fixes” their lack of diversity, but it’s a step in the right direction. So many women of color are told by the media that their features are undesirable; now they’ll be able to see a woman of color rocking the sexiest bra in the world and know that they too are capable of doing remarkable things!!!
