Things to Be Optimistic About Despite an Impending Trump Presidency

1 . Baylor students stand up to racism

On November 9th, when The Donald was announced to be the projected next President of the United States, hate crimes increased, the KKK celebrated, and racists were justified in their beliefs. Our hopes for a racially unbiased society were dampened. Though Baylor students help restore our faith in America and the future by walking a student to class who was assaulted and harassed for being black.

2. A teacher reminds students of their value

As a black, female immigrant, a Trump presidency terrified me. Now, though, I am slightly more optimistic due to the love I have felt from everyone who is against what Trump stands for. The day after the election, a teacher told me I was valuable, important, wanted, and always welcome. I needed to hear that, even coming from a white male. This video shows a teacher reminding her students that they are invaluable, necessary, and perfect just the way they are.

3. An infant in a car crash is thrown out of car and lives

This one does not pertain to race or any group that may have feel personally targeted by a Trump administration. This does, however, remind us that even in times where things may seem impossible, miracles still happy.

4. A Texan reminds Muslims that they are always welcome

A kind-hearted Texas man takes time out of his weekend to stand outside a mosque and remind Muslim-Americans that they are still Americans and are still welcome. Sometimes, certain citizens try to make others feel like less, so this man holding a sign reading “You Belong” is a breath of fresh air.

5. A dog survives on coming traffic

Even if nothing else makes you feel better, there are still dogs and dogs are awesome.

If it’s any consolation, The Donald has already recanted the majority of his campaign promises. With all of the less-than-ideal things happening in the world, we must also remember to appreciate all the wonderful things that are happening too.

Obama said it best:

“‘Your job as a citizen and as a decent human being is to constantly affirm and lift up and fight for treating people with kindness and respect and understanding. You should anticipate that at any given moment there’s going to be flare-ups of bigotry that you may have to confront, or may be inside you and you have to vanquish. And it doesn’t stop … You don’t get into a fetal position about it. You don’t start worrying about apocalypse. You say, O.K., where are the places where I can push to keep it moving forward.'”
