Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Santa Claus Is Real — Here’s The Proof

Clement Clark Moore, wrote in 1822 a Christmas poem for his daughters called ““An Account of a Visit from St. Nicholas” which later on would develop to be the story of the legend we know as Santa Claus. His poem might have had inspiration from several different sources, including the legend of a monk called Nicholas born around 280 A.D in Patara (the southern coast of Turkey nowadays), was a man who inherited a lot of money from his wealthy parents, raised a devoted Christian he believed in assisting those in need and suffering. His legend grew to be admired for his kindness and love for children and sailors.

This poem by Moore, helped universalize the image of the man thousands of children worldwide expect every night in between the 24th and the 25th of December with the help of Thomas Nast, a political cartoonist drew Clement’s poem in 1881. His cartoon, depicted Santa as a rotund, cheerful man with a full, white beard holding a sack laden with toys for lucky children. Thomas Nast was the one who gave Santa the particular red suit, a wife, elves and a house on the North Pole.

Nowadays several examples show the men dressing up as this famous character might live up to the legend that started it all, with their love for children worldwide, kindness and devotion.

Last year, we had Santa Claus at Cleveland Centre in Middlesbrough, England using sign language to communicate with a little girl called Mali Phoenix Williams-Cody, after her mother told him she couldn’t hear very well,  Santa asked if she could sign to make sure he got everything Mali wanted for Christmas.

“She said she wanted a scooter and I asked if she wanted a dolly and she said she wanted some sweets,” Santa said. “She wasn’t communicating and I looked at her mom and she said she understands animals. I decided to go in and try my very best. I’m not the best signer in the world, but I think that every child should be given attention.” He told ABC News.

Santa had another appointment at the beginning of the month when he went to John F. Kennedy Airport to meet four thousand children with special needs, in the event Operation Santa Claus which gives them toys, snacks and the opportunity to meet Santa in a heartwarming activity.

But Santa Claus at times doesn’t wear the red suit we are used to, or has a long white beard. There’s people out there that have different jobs through the year, that come in different shapes and use the clothing you and me use, they might not have the reindeers and elves but share the same wish, to make children happy and bring kindness to the world.

Liz Niemiec started a foundation called Little Wish, a nonprofit organization that grants small wishes from $300 to $800 to children with cancer. The organization has granted more than 560 wishes since 2010 to children in Indiana and four other states. You can donate via Paypal, hosting an event or even through a text message.

Samaritan’s Purse is an evangelical Christian organization that provides aid to people in need around the world, helping victims of war, poverty, natural disasters and disease. They have the Operation Christmas Child that builds boxes with essentials for children in need, you can donate a gift card, create the box yourself or pay for them to build the box for you.

Be An Elf is an organization where you make a child’s letter to Santa come true, Angel Tree is a program of Prison Fellowship that connects parents in prison with their children, volunteers purchase and deliver the gifts to the children in the name of their prisoner-parent.  Are a few other examples of ways you can help this holiday season.

To be like Santa Claus you can donate to this organizations, as well do research on which ones are near you to collaborate and make a child have a Merry Christmas, several of them collect toys, food, essentials and clothing around this time of the year. Check your local children hospital, schools and shelters or even make a collect yourself to donate to an organization that you like.
