Tips On Keeping Your Cat Away From The Christmas Tree

Cats and Christmas trees: two things that just don’t go together. If your cat is like mine and shows an unusual interest in Christmas trees then you are in the right place, my dear. Here are some tips to keep your Christmas tree safe and, eventually, keep your kitty away from it:

  • Don’t hang breakable ornaments too low: If you hang ornaments too low, they 100% are going to end up on the floor. I recommend you to use plastic ornaments instead of glass for your safety and your cats.
  • Spray the tree with an anti-chew product: The tree needles are toxic and dangerous especially if you have a natural tree, you don’t want your cat chewing on the needles.
  • It is known cats hate the smell of citrus, so try spraying the tree with Orange Juice as it can act as a deterrent. You can also use slices of orange as a decoration if you want.
  • Avoid using tinsel: It can easily fall from the tree and if your cat swallows it, it can cause intestinal blockage. If possible, place it as high on the tree as possible. Never let the electric wires and lights stay on if there aren’t any adults in the room to keep an eye on the cat!

Engage in interactive play sessions at least twice a day to help your cat work off that energy and hopefully tone down his fascination with the Christmas tree.

After all, you’ve done everything to keep the Christmas tree safe and if your cat still climbs in it, don’t get mad, just laugh it off. Have a happy holiday!
