We’re Being Racked: Why We Should Really Free the Nipple

Any person that has boobs knows that bras suck. They never fit right, they’re too expensive, and once you get past DDs they’re just plain ugly. The question of whether to pick up a bra or not is a choice — one that was unfortunately made for you by both your parent and the stigma around natural breasts. Unfortunately, society still feels the need to determine people’s worth based on how close to the ground their boobs are. Here’s what society won’t tell you: not only do bras make your boobs even more saggy, bras actually prevent your boobs from growing.

According to a study done at a university in France, not wearing a bra actually protects your boobs from gravity. Moreover, it was determined that bras are completely unnecessary. Encapsulating your breasts in those tight, sweaty death-traps every day is anatomically, medically, and physiologically a waste of time and money according to professor Jean-Denis Rouillan.

330 volunteers that were between the ages of 18 and 35 had their breasts measured regularly over the course of 15 years. The results concluded that the non-bra-wearers ended up with boobs that were firmer, had fewer stretch marks, and actually had a 7-millimeter lift each year.

Turns out, wearing a bra in hopes of “support” actually prevents your body from developing supporting breast tissue, in turn causing your boobs to sag more than they would have without a bra.

Let’s say you’re still a little unsure of whether or not you and the twins (fraternal for most) could actually stand being braless for extended periods of time, don’t worry! There’s a free trial version. You can participate in National No Bra day on Oct. 13 to free the nipple while bringing awareness to breast cancer at the same time!

Think about it: have you ever heard any sound reasons to wear a bra? Contrarily, have you ever heard the sketchy history behind the evolution of bras? A few decades ago, doctors were telling women to wear girdles to “keep their organs in place.” Now, we read something like that and dismiss it as completely absurd. Hopefully in the future, we’ll look back at forcing people to wear bras and think it just as absurd as judging people based on what articles of clothing they may or may not wear.
