Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

#RespectAriana

Four-time Grammy-nominated pop star, Ariana Grande, has once again shown us that she is indeed a Dangerous Woman with her recent statement regarding a misogynistic remark made by a Mac Miller fan. Being no stranger to standing up and defending herself against disgusting and degrading comments, Ariana posted screenshots of her experience with the fan and how she reflected on the incident.

Ariana explains in her tweet that the fan was excited to see her boyfriend, Mac Miller, and that the situation was cute and exciting until the fan loudly yelled to Mac, “Ariana is sexy as hell man, I see you hitting that!” Although she said the event saddened her and left her feeling objectified, she took the time to express her take on the manifestation of misogyny and the degradation of women.

I am not a peace of meat that a man gets to utilize for his pleasure. I’m an adult human being with a man who treats me with love and respect…We are not objects or prizes. We are QUEENS.

Shortly after posting her screenshots on Twitter, a commenter accused Ariana of hypocrisy, saying “yet you objectify yourself in music…”. This is when Ariana responded with a series of tweets explaining how women expressing their sexuality should not open a door of disrespect and objectification from others.

Our AMA Artist of the Year has shared her experiences with misogyny and feminism constantly by calling out sexist radio interview questions, intrusive and double standard questions about her exes, and body shaming by the media and society as a collective. This talented singer has a lot to offer to the table and has helped open her very large audience to issues that many other celebrities have failed to speak on. Her strong and defining personality has emboldened both those who directly face the ramifications of misogyny and those who are allies to the cause. Although these ramifications will continue to exist in the future, we can safely say that Ariana is helping the world make objectification one less problem.
