Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Racism and Sexism – Welcome to the Divided States of America

Men and women all across the country have been harassed because of their race, religion or sex, ever since Election Day. They most frequently have received messages of hate, intolerance and discrimination through graffitis and verbal harassment from men shouting from cars.

RACISM

Attacks against minorities are happening in schools, in the street, in parks, in malls, and in stores all across the nation in over 30 states. What we feared to happen after the dreadful election has become a reality for millions of minority Americans. Over the past two years, hate crimes in the United States have skyrocketed, and the list of crimes against Muslims, Jews, African Americans, LGBTQ+ people and people of other foreign backgrounds have increased.

California

Following the election, a number of Southern California mosques received anti-Muslim and pro-Trump letters from a group that calls itself “Americans For a Better Way” calling Muslims “Children of Satan”.

Maryland

When the rector of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Silver Spring, Md. came to church on a regular Sunday morning, he found one of their signs that advertises services in Spanish had been destroyed and sprayed with the words, “TRUMP NATION WHITES ONLY.” This message was also found on a wall near the memorial garden owned by the church.

New York

In New York City, hate crimes have already spiked by 35%. A Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Muslim worker, who was wearing her hijab, was reportedly attacked by a male passenger on her ride into Midtown Manhattan.

In Mineola, N.Y., Nassau County Police are now investigating swastikas and “Make America White Again” slogans sprayed across sidewalks.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, over 867 hate crimes occurred just 10 days after the election.

SEXISM

The man who dismissed his infamous 2005 video as just a mere occasion of  “locker room talk” and threatened to sue his alleged victims of rape for speaking out, is going to be president. Women and girls all across the nation are being targeted by Trump supporters, who are mimicking the President-elect.

Since the election, the frequency of harassment towards women has definitely increased. Women make up about 5% of the total reports, and some of them include men and boys around the country miming the president-elect’s sexist comments from the leaked 2005 recording.

Minnesota

In Minnesota, middle-school boys shouted “Grab her by the pussy!” out of a school bus to a man walking on the sidewalk with a female.

A 50-year-old woman from Venice Beach, Calif. said that she hasn’t been “catcalled” in more than 20 years. The day after the election, three men in a car with a Trump sticker yelled at her “Do you want us to grab your pussy?”

Virginia

In Virginia, a woman who was crossing the street has claimed that two white men had yelled from their car “You better be ready because, with Trump, we can grab you by the pussy even if you don’t want it.”

New York

A girl who was en route to school claimed a man said he was “allowed to grab my pussy because it’s legal now“.

A woman in Brooklyn, who openly supported Hillary Clinton, was punched in the face by a man who was a Trump supporter.

Donald Trump’s victory sends a disturbing message to millions of Americans about racism and sexual assault.

Secretary Hillary Clinton delivered a concession speech the Wednesday after the election, in which she said: “To all the little girls that are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful, and deserving of every chance, and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.”
