Three Ft. Lauderdale Shooting Victims Identified

26-year-old Esteban Santiago injured six and killed five people at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Friday, Jan. 6. Santiago shot at random at the Delta Sky Club in Terminal 2 after obtaining a firearm from his baggage.

Three of the five victims who were proclaimed dead have been identified.

Olga Woltering, 84

Woltering was an active member of the Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia, which she had been attending with her husband, Ralph Woltering, since 1978. The couple was going on a cruise to celebrate Ralph Woltering’s 90th birthday. Ralph was able to escape the shooting unharmed. Tim Woltering, one of the couple’s sons told NBC News that his mother was a “loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and good friend to many … she remains in our hearts, thoughts, and memories forever.”

Terry Andres, 62

Andres was an employee for Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was about to embark on a cruise with his wife, Ann Andres, who was unharmed in the shooting. The couple, who had been married for almost 40 years, was looking forward to spending 16 days together since Terry’s job required him to travel. Ryan Kim, Terry’s daughter, says that her family is still in disbelief that Terry’s life could be taken away so “abruptly and violently.” The Oceana Volunteer Fire Department in Virginia Beach, where Terry had volunteered since 2004 as a support technician, stated that “He was well liked and respected for both his dedication to being a volunteer as well as his professional approach to his job as a support tech. We mourn his passing as we do all the victims of the senseless attack in Ft. Lauderdale.”

Michael Oehme, 57

Oehme was a resident of Council Bluff, Iowa, who had been about to travel with his wife, Kari, on a cruise. Although Kari suffered a shoulder wound, she is recovering at a hospital. Michael was shot in the head and was proclaimed dead. Michael’s sister, Elizabeth Oehme-Miller, stated that the couple traveled frequently. Michael Oehme worked as a surveyor, while Keri is a customer service representative for CommScope in Omaha. CommScope released a statement reading “CommScope is doing everything it can to assist the family, as well as CommScope employees, during this difficult time. Our deepest sympathy goes out to everyone affected by this tragic event.”
