Demonstrators Harrassed on #HeWillNotDivideUs Livestream

It was just after midnight on Jan. 23, 2017 when I decided to log onto Shia Labeouf’s livestream #HeWillNotDivideUs. The project was meant to be peaceful and to spread the message that Donald Trump and his agenda will not come between us and progression, but what I was witnessing was much different.

All day the livestream was full of hopeful messages and love, but in the late hours, the worst of New York crawled out of their cracks to come spread their cancerous negativity.

On the livestream, a man stood by himself chanting, “He will not divide us. He will not divide us.” while several Trump supporters stood nearby, intimidating him and constantly making insulting comments. He stayed strong, repeating the mantra. We’ll call him #GlassesBoy.

The Trump supporters constantly made racial and homophobic slurs, even calling #GlassesBoy a “faggot” several times during the stream. The Trump supporters even performed Nazi salutes and shouted the “N” word multiple times into the camera.

A guy in a beanie with a mustache stayed the longest, refusing the leave and constantly screamed offensive profanities into the camera. This guy really really believes Hitler was a good guy. He told us at least a hundred times.

A woman joined shortly after to give #GlassesBoy some support. However, the men immediately ganged up on her, screaming and even tried to grab her umbrella from her. The harassment became so consistent and horrific, that I had to call NYPD and put the tip in.

Eventually, the woman left, unable to deal with the shouting in her face and the aggravation before the NYPD were able to show up. They made sure the area was safe and the harassment settled down before leaving.

On Twitter, lots of people showed their support for #GlassesBoy, rooting for him and hoping he stayed strong as the men continued their insults and pestering. Many wanted to send him a blanket, hot chocolate and a tight hug.

Eventually, a woman showed up and said she had to get out of bed in Brooklyn to come support him and to keep him going.

To celebrate their headstrong motivation, somebody watching the livestream even ordered them food and had it delivered for “the boy and girl wearing glasses.” Luckily another man arrived at the scene to translate the request from Spanish for the two protestors.

#GlassesBoy, who introduced himself as Leo, hugged his new friends, Lexi and Richie, goodbye and finally went home, since he had work in the morning. He had one thing to say about the angry Trump supporters that harassed him for hours and it was that he wished they were happier with their lives.

After he left, the livestream’s plot thickened with Lexi. A very creepy advertisement was put up on Craigslist about wanting to perform oral sex at the protest area that actually drew a man to the scene. The man, believing that Lexi had posted the advertisement, questioned her about it.

Even after finding out that the blow job advertisement was fake, he never left, worrying people online that Lexi may be in danger.

However, Lexi handled the situation well and gave a fake name. She even turned the creepy encounter into an opportunity to educate the horny boy: “Education. Compassion. Empathy. Love. He will not divide us.”

Don’t you just hate when you come to a shady location at 3am for a blow job but get educated instead?

Eventually the livestream died down and everyone headed home to rest. However, the eventful night from white supremacists throwing a party to casual sex opportunists showing up made it better than any Netflix binge. Viewers cannot help but question the safety of the project and the negative attention it attracts too easily from trolls of the Internet.

As if the livestream couldn’t have gotten more interesting, a rat showed up when everyone left. You just can’t make this shit up.

Despite it all, thank you #GlassesBoy and the others that came to be by his side. You are strong and he will not divide us.
