‘La La Land’ Ties Titanic for Most Oscar Nominations in History

The beloved film of 2017 La La Land ties with late Hollywood masterpieces Titanic (1997) and All About Eve (1950), receiving 14 Academy Award nominations.

Released Dec. 9 of this past year, La La Land has had the box office brimming since its release date, earning over 136.3 million USD.

The Hollywood-inspired film La La Land had a late release date, but regardless, its charm and well-rounded, meaningful soundtrack won over this years’ Oscar voters.

After receiving a record total of seven prizes at the Golden Globes, La La Land was nominated for Best Picture, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, both of whom were up for Oscar nominations for Best Actor and Best Actress.

Other nominations include Best Director for Damien Chazelle, Best Original Music Score going to Justin Hurwitz, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing and Best Production Design.

There were also specific nods to Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, due to their superb performances in the musical; their abilities to play music (i.e. piano), sing and dance throughout the film shows a great amount of hard work and dedication well deserving of praise.

Ryan Gosling even took the initiative to learn how to play piano in three months time solely for the film. He explained in an interview:

“It was really one of the most fulfilling pre-production periods I’ve ever had [learning to play the piano].”

This film certainly deserved the award nominations that it received this morning of Jan. 24. Each individual who played a part in creating, producing, directing and acting in order to make La La Land what it is certainly earned their standing at this years’ Academy Awards show.

The 89th Annual Oscars Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26 and hosted by late night show host Jimmy Kimmel, and it can be viewed on ABC.
