Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

The War on Facts

The Trump Administration has brought on a myriad of things to this new America. For one, it brought along of series of executive actions that range from pledging to build a wall along the Mexican border to advancing the construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access Pipelines. This administration has also brought along the term “alternative facts”, officially coined by Kellyanne Conway. This comment was in response to criticism of Sean Spicer’s statement on the size of the inauguration crowd. However, the one thing that this new administration has brought is the arrival of “rogue” or “alternative” accounts for government agencies. It is unclear whether these accounts are or are not actually run by government employees, but it is clear that it all began when the National Park Agency was apparently told to stop tweeting after they tweeted two pictures comparing the size of the inauguration crowds.

Facts, as described by the sane humans, are provable through evidence or data. The reality that the new administration making facts a vague or “alternative” concept terrifies me, and it should terrify everybody. Even throughout his campaign, his team treated hard and solid facts about Donald Trump’s lack of experience as merely opinions by Democrats and those who opposed him.

Though Trump’s obsession with the size of his inauguration crowds are disturbing, the more disturbing aspect of this administration is that we can never be sure whether we’re being told the truth, and that’s scarier than anything I could imagine. It’s like when a friend lies to you: you’re not mad because they lied to you, you’re mad because you may never be able to trust them again.

By parading his personal opinions as facts, Donald Trump has officially waged war on truths.

By parading his personal opinions as facts, Donald Trump has officially waged war on truths, and I cannot stress how terrifying that is. By not acknowledging the realities of the United States, he is creating a dystopia that will take years and years to fix.
