Today’s society consists of a surplus of social media stars and young famous people; all in which are shone under the light of the public eye. Some use their voice to benefit everyone, such as Rowan Blanchard. The young actress and activist is only 15 but uses her voice to speak volumes of current issues. Just recently at the Women’s March in Los Angeles, the woke teen spoke on behalf of everyone who believes in civil rights.
Although platforms such as YouTube try to decrease the use of political and profane subjects, people will normally always express their minds. Yet, there are some people who are merely money hungry and do not care about contributing to helping the world grow. Or some opinions may just be unpopular, therefore they are left unaddressed; which may be for the best.
With current issues such as the Muslim Ban in the United States, social media has been frantic. Which is a great way to solve the problem, the more that people are worried, the more people there will be taking initiative. Sitting around and reading about it will not change anything, you may educate yourself; but how is that going to help the people who are being kicked out of a country that should not be separated by religion.
Media of today makes it hard to avoid current issues, as every second people from all over the world are tweeting or blogging about current events. We all know, what is on the internet is not personal, everyone can see what is posted; therefore it becomes controversial. So when a celebrity or a social media star tries to avoid the subject concerning everyone’s minds, it is obvious that their view may oppose the common thought.
Yet, the importance of media is to spread word and communicate not only with people, but with thought. Everyone has a favorite actor or artist they admire and follow on social media, so when that actor or artist takes initiative to motivate the thought that can benefit everyone; people will follow. For example, the Woman’s March was very controversial. Even people like Arianna Grande who are very big in the pop industry went, and tweeted/snapchatted about the event. This helps bring people together under the influence of someone who groups of big followings tend to lean on.
Overall, what people we admire say tends to have more meaning. So whether someone with mighty influence is addressing the importance of a rally or just simply trying to educate as many people as possibly; the importance is how to influence. Do not push your beliefs down someone’s throat, but do not stay silent. Silence is what causes separation and isolation of different groups, and pushing your opinion towards someone will drive them to the opposite direction.
