Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

“What Protest Do You Want to Go to?” Is the New “Where Do You Want to Go for Dinner?”

If you’ve been watching the news lately or even just scrolling through any of your social media accounts then you probably know whats happening in the world right now and if you dont know whats happening around the world then I’m kinda happy for you because none of the news items are pleasant and if you have any human decency in you then I’m pretty sure most of these news items will ruin your day.

Now, because of all thats been happening in the world right now from Trump’s executive order on the ban of refugees, to his order for the wall at the Mexican border, to his anti-abortion orders, protests have become a common occurrence. When trump was running for president we saw a few protests here and there, which were protesting against him running for president and now ever since he’s been president (it’s only been 11 days by the way) we have been seeing protests around the world more than we have ever before.

When Donald Trump got sworn in as president on January 20th 2017, the world saw a rise in protests which started off with the women’s march on Washington which also took place in various other states, and countries around the world. Since then, we have seen various protests take place not only in the United States but all over the world. Currently, many people in various locations have been protesting against the ban on refugees and protesting for the rights and freedoms of not only muslims but all minorities that will be or already have been affected by Trumps presidency.

These protests have taken up the world by storm and it is something we all need to get used to. Although many people claim protests to be a “joke” and a “waste of time” it is still better than just sitting around while watching the world fall apart right in front of our very own eyes. Although protests may not completely end an injustice it is still a step forward for change, people coming together in solidarity will always be stronger and much more powerful than a president who likes to spread hate and divide a nation.

If you want to get involved be sure to do some research on your area and I’m sure you’ll be able to find a local protest to go to whether its at city hall, on campus, or at an airport.

So, maybe next weekend instead of saying “where do you want go out for dinner?” you might just say “what protest do you want to go to?” I think we all need to get used to protesting and we should also probably buy ourselves some reusable protest signs because it looks like these protests aren’t going anywhere soon.
