Flu Season Is Here And Happening Almost Everywhere

The influenza virus typically peaks around late January to mid-February, and this year, there is no exception. The chief of infection diseases at Hartford Hospital, Dr. Jack Ross, predicts that the flu season will peak in about 2-3 weeks. However, the flu has already spread to 40 states and Puerto Rico and has reached extremely high levels in New Jersey, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, New York and South Carolina. Among the 12,000 cases of influenza A being reported per week since mid-January, 15 pediatric deaths have occurred.

Influenza is a viral infection that especially affects children, elderly, and those with chronic conditions. It is highly contagious, and its symptoms include fevers, chills, headache, and soreness. Although there are many different types of influenza, influenza A and B have the most occurrences around flu season. Drinking plenty of fluids and getting lots of rest is essential to treating many cases of the flu. The CDC also states that getting vaccinated is important to protect yourself and others around you from the flu. Nevertheless, in serious cases, it is important to go to the doctor to get a professional medical diagnosis.
