Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

What You Need to Know About Earth Guardians

We’ve come to a point in time at which the future is more uncertain than ever. The future of foreign relations, the future of American politics, but most importantly, the future of our environment. 2016 was earth’s hottest year on record, that’s a fact. Sea levels have risen at a faster pace this decade than they have in a century, that’s a fact. Yet, despite facts and evidence of the dangers of global warming, plenty of Americans, one of whom happens to be our president, discredit the validity of it everyday.

Our president, who more closely resembles a moldy burnt marshmallow than he does a human, has said, time and again, that global warming is a hoax created by the Chinese. His claims, though seemingly absurd, have picked up plenty of momentum among his supporters, and throughout the party; and their growing popularity is reason for concern. Though I fear for the future of climate protection, I am also relieved to see the sheer multitude of young people getting involved in such a worthy cause. If you’re looking for ways to impact the environment for the better, Earth Guardians will help get you started.

What started as a high school in Hawaii in 1992 has now turned into a global movement, one completely and wholly dedicated to bettering the planet and getting young people involved in the process. Their relocation to Colorado in 1997 enabled them to better reach the youth of America and encourage political activism in order to make change. Through small projects based in Colorado, Earth Guardians caught the yes of plenty or local media outlets and spiked interest in surrounding areas, creating a snowball effect that would eventually allow them to achieve worldwide stature.

Earth Guardians has plenty of ways to get involved listed on their site that don’t require any long term dedication to the actual organization. Their Action Center is currently focused on fighting the construction of pipelines across the country, and you can get involved by donating money and signing petitions. Additionally, the Action Center has links to teach you more about your carbon footprint and how to reduce it. Their “50 Simple Things” will provide you with plenty to do in every aspect of your daily routine, and, though they may seem small and ineffective, doing the little things is one of the best ways to help protect our environment. Being mindful of your water and energy usage, as well as shopping locally and using reusable bottles, are great ways to make sure that you are doing your part to support our planet.

To get involved with Earth Guardians, you can join as an individual, or get your friends together and start a “crew” to volunteer locally, and at events coordinated by Earth Guardians and partners. Crews also have the option to join “Protect Our Future”, a campaign aimed at helping Earth Guardians make an impact on their local communities. Those who have less time, but would like to support the work of Earth Guardians can donate money or spread the word about the organization via social media and word of mouth. Earth Guardians also has partnerships with like minded groups like Our Children’s Trust and the Bioneers. These groups have plenty of ways to take action if you cannot find a way to help through Earth Guardians, or just want to further involve yourself in the cause.

Ultimately, any involvement is good involvement, whether that be doing “50 Simple Things”, donating money or creating a local crew. This fight to protect the earth is not going away anytime soon, and our actions can and will have an impact that will decide the sustainability of life on this planet for generations to come.
