Who is he and why is he so bad?

Unfortunately, it’s official, the Senate made one of the biggest mistakes yet, by confirming Oklahoma Attorney General, Scott Pruitt, a longtime enemy of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the head of it? Yes, that happened around 10:00 AM on Friday (2/17/17). Pruitt will definitely take the EPA in a change of direction that will NOT be beneficial for our country AND our planet.

Pruitt’s statements on climate and energy are extremely alarming (to say the least) for anyone who understands the environment,  but it’s what takes place behind closed doors, that sets off many alarms for numerous Democrats and environmentalists.

In 2014, Pruitt was caught in a secretive alliance with oil and gas industry insiders aimed at tearing down environmental protections. Emails released by the New York Times show Pruitt and other Republican attorney generals, working together with corporations and lobbyists to file lawsuits and challenge federal regulations on practically everything, from fracking to air pollution. One of those insiders conspiring with Pruitt was Harold Hamm, who is President Trump’s top energy adviser and CEO of the country’s largest fracking company. Hamm has also made headlines as one of the largest contributors to the Dakota Access Pipeline; it’s his company’s oil that will flow through the pipeline once it is complete. Pruitt has also received $318,496 in campaign donations from the fossil fuel industry since 2002, leaving others and myself with little doubt about whose interests he’ll protect the head of the EPA— and by the looks of it, it doesn’t look like he’s trying to protect the American people or anyone else for that matter. In his own official biography, Pruitt described himself as, “a leading advocate against the EPA’s activist agenda.”  Is this really the man you want to PROTECT the environment?

The Obama administration implemented a clean power plan which Pruitt, is expected to dismantle. By dismantling the clean power plan, he’s also removing the EPA’s main rule aimed at minimizing the carbon footprint of the United States. President Trump has already taken up the clean power plan up to court and is determined to reverse this plan which DOES have benefits. During the environmental agreement in Paris in October 2016, Former President Barack Obama signed an international agreement which would require countries to lower down carbon emissions by 30%. Donald Trump and Scott Pruitt are now working to reverse this law, for who’s benefit? Theirs, not OURS.

So now with Scott Pruitt in charge of the EPA –the organization he absolutely despises–, the United States will increase fracking–which has and does lead to earthquakes and also contaminates drinking water— increase our carbon dioxide emissions, build a dangerous pipeline, and completely destroy our environment for future generations. Do we really want a man who has sued this organization, spoken out against it, is aiming to increase carbon emissions and fracking, as the head of the Environmental PROTECTION Agency?

Who is to blame for all of this?

To all Trump voters, all I can say is, congratulations, you have elected a man and his “buddies” who will now jeopardize your future, your children’s’ future, and grandchildren. We are losing our environment, losing education, losing LGBTQ+ rights, creating riots in the streets when all we had to do was elect someone AGAINST this.
