Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Society Reminds Young Women They Will Never Be Enough

Growing up is always hard. Your body, your mind and the world around you is changing and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. You stress about everything from school to your appearance, and some people just seem to make it worse.

As a young woman, it seems like you have to be everything at once. You have to be skinny, but curvy in the right parts (what does that even mean). You have to be smart, but not too smart, otherwise you’re a nerd. You have to be athletic, but not have too much muscle, that’s unfeminine and guys don’t like that. You have to be “natural”, because too much make up isn’t something boys think is attractive, but if you have acne or pimples chances are you’ll get teased about it whether you wear makeup or not. Oh and you can’t be too independent or confident either, because people get threatened easily, but i say let them.

Truth is that you can’t be all of the things society wants you to be at once, and you shouldn’t be either. No one is “perfect”, and instead of making women feel bad about everything they do we should encourage them to be themselves, be bold and be whatever they want.

Instead of calling girls sluts for wearing shorts, being confident, using a snapchat filter and breathing, people should empower them and honestly, mind their own business. If there is something i have learned, it is that you can never please everyone. You can’t even come close. But the only person you should want to please and make proud is you. Our value and worth as human beings doesn’t drop because of how little or how much makeup we wear, or how much skin we decide to show.

Becoming confident in yourself is a long road, but it’s one of the most important things you can have. We all have bad days where everything is just wrong and you feel like you look like trash, but that’s just life. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have abs, if you want to wear a crop top, then you should absolutely wear the damn crop top.
