Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Caitlyn Jenner Is Not a Good Transgender Role Model

On Wednesday night, Donald Trump’s administration revoked the Obama’s administration protection for the transgender students to use bathrooms in their schools and public facilities that match their gender’s preferences. And just like any other of his decisions, this action caused anger and fret to the U.S. transgender students. A lot of celebrities are showing their concerns and support about this matter through Twitter and Instagram, especially transgender icons like Laverne Cox, Jamie Clayton, Jazz Jennings, and surprisingly Caitlyn Jenner.

Caitlyn Jenner tweeted a video about how she’s disappointed with Donald Trump’s action revoking transgender rights.

“I have a message for President Trump, from one Republican to another : this is a disaster, and you can still fix it. You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me.”

Let’s talk about how this is the first time Caitlyn speaks up about things that Trump has done. Where was she when Trump made an order to deport immigrants and blocking refugees from the U.S.? Where was she when Trump signed an order for anti-abortion and blocked fund for an organization like planned parenthood? She definitely didn’t really care much about those issues since she’s also a supporter of Trump, and she’s showing up now because this issue affects herself as a transgender woman and because she’s famous, she wanted to be seen as “transgender role model” by everyone and thinking that her tweet would make everyone sees her as one.

Next, let’s talk about the fact that she’s transgender; people who still face the most discrimination in the U.S. and she’s also a Republican and supporting Donald Trump. Well, Caitlyn, why would you even bother asking Trump to ‘call you’ and talk about LGBTQ issues with him? Trump has made it clear that he’s not supporting the LGBTQ community and even chose homophobes in his administration. No matter how influential you are, Trump wouldn’t even care. Has she ever thought that life as transgender isn’t easy for everyone? Not everyone is rich and able to hire bodyguards to protect them from bullying and discrimination, and she definitely needs to understand that under Trump’s regime, she’s one of the oppressed people now because she’s transgender and she should stop supporting him instead asking him to ‘call her’.

Let’s not forget about her views on gay marriage. In 2015, on the Ellen Show, she stated that she’s a traditionalist, likes tradition and she’s always seen marriage as only between a man and a woman.

“As time has gone on, I think a lot of people on this issue have really changed their thinking here to, ‘I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness.’ That’s not my job, okay? If that word—marriage—is really, really that important to you, I can go with it”

This is proving that she’s, somehow, still low key not on board with same-sex marriage, and she said all of those just for publicity.

Caitlyn Jenner came out as transgender in April 2015, and she somehow became a transgender icon for quite a while. Everyone was applauding her for her bravery and even she got some awards after came out as transgender. I personally think that she still needs to learn a lot about transgender community in the U.S. if she wants to be called a ‘role model’. Her transition story sure is inspiring, but she really needs to change her political view and start to see that she is one of the oppressed people and use her voice to give support not only for issues that affect her but also other social issues that are happening in the U.S.
