Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Pay for Your Porn, You’re Abusing Sex Workers

Porn isn’t a right, it’s a privilege. People steal porn at a rampant rate, and when you steal porn, you have no idea where it comes from. Watching “free cam shows” that have been illegally downloaded without the models consent, not only harms the model, who now doesn’t make the tips off of the show that helps support them.

Feminism includes all kinds of sex workers, and if your feminism doesn’t include all kinds of sex workers, you’re a really bad feminist. Supporting people regardless if you ‘like’ what their job is, is supporting the person for their ability to choose the career that best suits them. If they’re comfortable and enjoying what they do, there is literally nothing you have to say that matters about their job choice.

If you can’t afford to tip, you can’t afford the product that they’re offering. They don’t owe you entertainment for free. Entertainment that takes their time and effort is not for you to enjoy for free. Streaming porn off of “free” websites, literally takes income away from people that need it to survive.  While some cam models do have ‘vanilla’ jobs (jobs outside of sex work), lots of models pay their bills solely off of camming, clip sales, nude photos, sex lines, and many other different versions of sex work.

There is nothing inherently degrading about porn. However, lots of mainstream porn, owned by big name porn companies, with directors that hire in their performers, produce product that can be degrading to women, or could be inherently racist. Lots of mainstream porn studios still produce “race play” clips, or other clips that buy into other racially offensive tropes.

However, supporting small studios, and performers, means that you can pick and choose who you support. You know that the money is going to them. You can look through their history of clips, and if there are offensive clips, or clips you’re not comfortable with, you can support someone else.

When you’re downloading clips and videos illegally, you don’t know if those are actual performers, or if someone uploaded revenge porn without someone consent, and know you’re watching someone’s homemade sex tape they never wanted anyone else to see. You don’t know if you’re watching someone be sexually abused, or harassed. You’ve got no idea.

When you support the creators of porn, right from the source, you know what you’re getting. You can screen the product yourself, and you’re comfortable in what you’re supporting. You know everyone is of age, and you’re not watching anything with people that aren’t yet of age.

Supporting small clip makers, on Manyvids, or Clip 4 Sales, ensures you know what you’re getting. If you want to support cam models, use cam sites, there are so many to choose from, and it’s always best to do you own research into what platform you like best, but you could try Chaturbate.

Sex workers deserve to be paid. From one of the most searched topics on the internet, the sheer amount of people that feel they don’t need to pay for porn because they have access to the internet, is immense. The internet isn’t a ticket to free porn. That’s someone’s labour that you’re stealing. Sex workers face enough discrimination and harassment that it’s the least non sex workers can do to pay for the porn that they’re enjoying.

If you can’t afford a few dollars to buy a clip, on Manyvids, clips can start at a couple dollars a video, then you don’t need it that badly. It’s a treat, like going out to an art galley. If you can’t afford the art gallery, you don’t bust in to look at the art for free, and then get mad when people tell you that it’s not for you.

Don’t support sites that steal porn. Don’t support people that steal porn. Don’t steal porn. It makes you greedy, ignorant, and basically the worst kind of person. Support the people that you’re enjoying the product from, artists deserve to be paid for their work. How do you expect people to continue producing entertainment for free?
