Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Don’t Pit Adele And Beyonce Against Each Other For The Grammys

Grammy night is here, and there will be many great performances!

Two of the most notable performers and nominees are Beyonce and Adele. At what many consider the peak of both of their careers, many people constantly pit them against each other. Even though they’ve produced successful albums and received many awards, Adele has stated numerous times that she is apart of Beehive and has shown support for Beyonce many times. So why do people create this imaginary rivalry?

Tonight they will come face to face at the Grammys. Adele and Beyonce are both nominated for record, song and album of the year. Adele’s 25 vs Beyonce’s Lemonade. Now both projects were great and brought a lot to the table. Beyonce’s work brought black pride and Adele’s brought tears.

Many experts are saying that Adele’s “Hello” can take home the major prizes, but Beyonce’s “Formation” symbolized a lot of things for black people such as myself, so seeing it win Song of the Year would signify a lot in a time where it seems like black entertainment isn’t properly appreciated. On the other hand, “Hello” was a great record that resonated with a lot of heartbroken people. I have followed Adele’s career from 19 and to me she seemed like the underdog — woman who didn’t fit the status quo of beauty. She isn’t skinny and makes no apologies for it. Adele is a plus size woman who focuses on the craft. That’s why I have appreciated Adele from the beginning; she makes no apologies for who she is.

The problem is that there’s this notion that two women cannot coexist and both be successful in their own right. For years people have always pitted Beyonce and Adele against each other because both women have been successful in their careers. It’s weird that male celebrities are never pitted against each other, yet it seems like women are always made to be enemies. Adele has shown immense respect for Beyonce time and time again, even calling her Jesus Christ. Tonight will be a big night for both women.

At the end of the day, whether Beyonce or Adele wins, I know both ladies will congratulate each other and show support. We need to stop this constant competition between women that has been going on for years. People have their different lanes, Adele doesn’t make the same music as Beyonce. Regardless of who wins tonight, it will be a win for women everywhere.
