Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Whose Line Is It Anyway: A Show Where Everyone Hates Trump

Whose Line Is It Anyway has been on air since 1988, first in the UK for 10 years before moving to the US for 9. (It’s still on air today since 2013 on the CW network, Wednesdays 9/8c.) I got hooked after stumbling upon a compilation video while I was watching bloopers of various shows at 2 in the morning. The show’s concept is very simple, everything is improv. It’s all on the spot comedy that will blow your mind at the pure brilliance that can come from someone’s mind without even thinking it through first.

So, it’s good, it’s funny, but it wasn’t until I started following the cast past/present on twitter. Every single cast member I’ve come across has gone to women’s marches and been outspoken on the wrongdoings of Donald Trump. I’ve never been so proud to be a fan of so many straight white men in my life. (Colin, Ryan, Brad, Greg, and Jeff) use their privilege like they should, speaking out against transphobia and the lack of representation in the White House.

Not only is Whose Line Is It Anyway ridiculously funny, the cast members use their voice for the better. Wayne Brady, who has been a permanent cast member since the first US version began, has been performing in Chicago Company of Hamilton. (Yeah, he’s that good.) Even from the beginning of his Whose Line career, he has never shied away from saying things about being the only POC on the permanent cast. Even as a joking way, it made a difference.

Greg Proops, an author and cast member since the whole thing started, has a running list of names he’s called Trump and even has #NotMyPresident in his bio. The list includes Orange Julius Caesar and Adolph Shitler.

My favorite cast member, Colin Mochrie, is an author and my favorite comedian ever. He has tweeted me happy birthday for the past 3 years and it only furthers my love for him and his work. It was soon after he tweeted me ‘happy birthday’ that he shared some personal news that warmed my heart and soul. He shared an interview he did with ET Canada about his transgender daughter Kinley. He was nothing but supportive, the way you should be. It was so beautiful and it was then when I started to really pay close attention to the rest of the cast, his friends. Knowing that if he was so amazing and supportive, they all must be as well.

Whose Line Is It Anyway deserves more respect from Hollywood. It deserves more views and more love from viewers. So, please watch it on Wednesdays and look up clips on YouTube. Fill your life with these positive people that have made me happy ever since I began watching the show.
