8 Tips to Keep You and Your Sex Toys Safe

Sex toys are a great addition to the bedroom, both on your own, or with partners. Their are so many different kinds, styles, and sizes that almost anyone can find a sex toy to fit their needs, if that’s what they’re into. However, taking care of your toys is a must, and here are some tips to make sure that you and your toys are staying safe.

  1. Always check they’re in working order. Make sure they’re not broken, smell funny or corroded. If they’re water proof, check to make sure the seal isn’t broken. Always make sure they’re in good shape before use.
  2. Clean them. Make sure that you’re cleaning your toys after every use. You can also clean them before using them just in case they’ve come into contact with any bacteria since you’ve used them last. You can also buy a spray on toy cleaner, you can find some here, (most toys are fine with a small amount of gentle soap, or dish soap and warm water).  Anti-bacterial soap can leave a film on the toys. Not cleaning your toys can lead to nasty infections. Always clean them! If you’re moving a toy from anus to vagina, or anus to mouth, etc. make sure to clean them! This is another way to get infections.
  3. Don’t sink in water if it has batteries! While most battery operated toys are water resistant, that doesn’t mean they’re water proof. Wipe them down instead of sticking them in the sink.
  4. Take note of the material. There are two categories of sex toys, typically. There are glass toys which are non porous, meaning that bacteria can’t get inside, and porous toys, like rubber and jelly. Follow cleaning procedure for each kind of toy. They are all different.
  5. Buy them from a credible source. Make sure that you read what they’re made out of. If you get the toy and it smells bad, do not use it on your genital area. Toys can be expensive. If you want a safe toy with lots of functions, that’s waterproof, you will have to pay money to get a safe one. If it’s super cheap, it’s probably not safe.
  6. Use the right lube. Silicone lube can’t be used with condoms or silicone toys, it will break down both of them. Water based lube is the lube that you use for silicone toys.
  7. Store them properly. Do not stack them all on top of each other. They can meld together, and the last thing you want is an expensive ruined sex toy. You can buy sex toy storage bags, or put towels in a box to separate them. Make sure they’re not touching.
  8. Replace them. Sex toys don’t last forever. They need to be maintained to keep them in working shape, and sometimes even maintenance doesn’t prolong the inevitable. Upgrade and update, and keep yourself healthy and happy.

Sex toys can work wonders, but to keep being safe and clean, you need to take care of them. While sex toy maintenance is often neglected it is amazingly pertinent to keeping you, and your partners from infections, rashes, or sickness, in the bedroom.
