Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

A Letter to Donald Trump About Respecting Women

Hello, Donald.

Calm down, I’m not one of the many women who you’ve sexually harassed, but I am a woman who is concerned that you continue to ignore how women and men are politically, socially, and economically unequal. On International Women’s Day, you wrote a tweet about your tremendous respect for women, but I beg to differ. I am going to help remind you why your tweet about respecting women is a lie. After this letter, you will probably continue to live in your alt-right la la land where you deny sense and reality, but it’s worth a try and this is only a small list of how disrespectful you are to women.

From what I’ve read and heard you say, you have no idea about women except for the fact that they have vaginas that you think you can voluntarily grab.

You probably don’t want to believe it, but the gender pay gap between men and women is real. Did you know that white women make 79 cents to a white mans dollar? Asian women make 84 cents, Black women make 60 cents and Hispanic women make 55 cents. Your clothes are made in countries like China, Mexico and Bangladesh where the women live in harsh economic environments and work in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. You have never spoke about taking a step to help all women in developing countries. Respecting women also means helping women, all women, which is something you don’t seem willing to do.

You love the idea that you can own a vagina, but if you really respected women, you would know that you do not own a woman’s vagina. Nobody owns a woman’s vagina except for that woman. Defunding Planned Parenthood, trying to take away contraceptions and a woman’s choice of having an abortion does not respect a woman at all. In fact, it does the total opposite. Since your main concern of being pro-life is women who have abortions, let me mention to you that a lot of women have abortions because of unfortunate economic or health problems. Some women have abortions because of sexual assault or because they simply can’t take care of a baby and taking away their choice of what they decide to do with their child and body is insensate. Also, how can you claim to be pro-life, but refuse to let men, women, and children who are fleeing war come into America for a better life? And the ICE officers deporting undocumented immigrants who are also in America for a better life or education opportunities? Denying to save or help an individual is not pro-life.

Donald, do you remember the disrespectful comments you made to and about Hillary Clinton because I do. You called Hillary a nasty woman, tweeted that she was weak, and that she wasn’t smart enough to handle military operations. Remember when Hillary Clinton acknowledged your fat-shaming comments to Alicia Machado and then you tweeted how disgusting Alicia was because she allegedly made a sex tape? I remember when 16 women (and counting) came out and made accusations about you sexually harassing them. It’s sad that that you, the POTUS, contributes to rape culture by getting away with sexual harassment and believing that women are objects and you can do anything to them.

I can’t believe a word you say about respecting women when time has proven over and over that you believe women are subordinate to men politically, socially, and economically. You don’t have any respect for women and the unfortunate part is that you are rewarded for being sexist. You don’t support any woman except for white conservative women (if they’re lucky). If you cared and respected about all women so much, why haven’t you condemned the murders of the seven transgender women? If you’re going to support women then support all of us and not just one. Support and be inclusive with Black women, Hispanic women, Asian women, Indigenous women, Indian women, Muslim women, disabled women, transgender women, immigrant women, middle eastern women, queer women, gay women, ALL women.

Sincerely,
An intersectional, nasty, loud, Black feminist
