Casting Done Right: Zazie Beetz Will Play Domino In ‘Deadpool 2’

A few days ago, Ryan Reynolds announced on Twitter that Zazie Beetz will indeed be playing the witty, strong, and full-of-luck mutant Neena Thurman A.K.A Domino in Deadpool 2 which is set to be released in 2018.

Domino is a mutant (commonly affiliated with X-Force), whose power is the ability to “subliminally and psionically initiate random telekinetic acts that affect probability in her favor by making improbable (but not impossible) things to occur within her line of sight”. In short, she has luck. Lots of it. However, her power is triggered particularly when she is in a fraught situation and she also has to actively engage in an action where she can alter the chances so the outcomes are in her favor.

Not only does she have probability-altering powers, she’s also an expert marksman and exceptionally good at hand-to-hand combat. Combine all of this with her wit and sarcasm, and you’d have everything you love in a comic character.

Previously, there were many rumors and speculations regarding who was to play Domino, most notably Kerry Washington and Janelle Monae. These rumors already had fans of Domino biting their nails in anticipation, which goes to show just how much this character is loved. Even though none of the rumors were true, fans were delightfully surprised when Reynolds posted tweets confirming Zazie Beetz as Domino.

Zazie Beetz is an up-and-coming actress, who is best known for playing Vanessa “Van” Keefer in the critically acclaimed FX show Atlanta. Personally, Domino is one of my favorite comic characters and I was beyond excited when it was announced that Zazie will bring this character to life on the big screen. According to Collider, there were many actresses who were considered for the role including Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Sienna Miller and Sofia Boutella. Some of them have even tested for it, but Zazie Beetz beat them so that says a lot about how well she will portray Domino. Many people have praised her acting, and we are also overjoyed that they have casted a black actress to play Domino. Representation matters, and we’re happy to see that Fox is finally taking a step towards the right direction.
