Many college students took to vacationing during their spring break to connect with friends and enjoy themselves through partying, drinking, and traveling. A common vacation spot this year for US collegiate’s was Cancun Mexico. And with all the backlash that some US residents have given the country, it was no surprised that most millennial trump supporters vacationed in Mexico regardless of many of their discriminatory bias.
The many republican’s feelings on immigration was made public during the beginning of Donald Trump’s candidacy. His widely-known chant “Build a Wall”, quickly gained him popularity among conservatives and become a phrase that they began to use as well.
Some of the same young adults who had posted on social media in the post pictures with the caption “build a wall” were the same individuals drinking alcohol on the Mexican sand referring to their trip as the best weekend of their lives. The most horrifying aspect of posts like this is that some genuinely believe that there is a humor to wanting people out of “your country” yet feeling entitled enough to travel to theirs for personal pleasure.
And as if that was not enough, many Trump supporters went as far as to blatantly chant “Build That Wall” while in Mexico on a cruise. The lack of respect and cruel intentions were clear.
That feeling of entitlement needs to disappear as quick as it came because that is the exact characteristic that many young and old Trump supporters bestow; The idea that equal rights are not important as long as their rights aren’t affected.
This type of ignorance seems to be embedded in the heads of many of Trump’s supporters.
Now the question remains: what if roles were reversed? Where would conservatives vacation if Mexico created a wall restricting Americans from coming onto Mexican territory? After all, they would have a reason to. Following the days after spring break was celebrated on the beaches of Cancun came the cleanup.
And it seems that whether in the US or in their homeland of Mexico, Mexicans are discredited as well as mocked by the many conservatives who are against them.
