Slang the definition of a type of language that consists of words and phrases that are regarded as very informal, are more common in speech than writing, and are typically restricted to a particular context or group of people. That definition kills the real term, because then slang becomes the popular word and everyone uses it without thinking, oh this word could probably have a deeper meaning. How this applies to the actual words is because a lot of them are derogatory or used as insults. They’re three main examples that I will elaborate on, like fuckboi, retard, and the word gay.
Fuckboi, the word that means to mess around with girls and to basically be a player, the usage of that word is so discriminatory and vulgar. The word actually is very discriminating, it is what they called boys who were raped or molested. When people use that word to describe a boy who “plays” too much is irritating. It is because people don’t understand how that word is really something else. The word is rather popular to teenagers and young adults, they go through relationships or hear gossip on a boy and they automatically believe that it is okay to use.
Mental retardation is a medical condition that is caused to have below average intelligence and set of life skills before the age of 18. In otherworldly it is to be meant that the person who has this is a slow learner and does not process as much as the average person. People have formed this word form a manifestation of how it means that someone is slow. So now they use it as such slang to called a person stupid. It hurts many people like the person who is called that but even more so of the people would have been diagnosed with mental retardation.
Homosexuality has been around for ages and has been discriminated against for so long until the grateful day when it became legal for gay marriage. To me that was a day I thought I would never see because I had lived in a world where it was discriminated upon. When people use that word gay it is to identify themselves or it is used in a discriminatory manner. Like when people say ‘oh that’s so gay’ , they do not think of others feelings toward the word. An example would be me because at my school many people say that line and it is disappointing. But I usually stand up for it and stand against it.
