Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Jérôme Jarre Is an Example of How People Should Be Using Their Platform

You probably know Jérôme Jarre as that French guy from Vine. Jérôme’s lighthearted, happy personality helped him develop a platform on social media. Most popular vine users get famous because their vines made people laugh- it was a pretty comical app. As Vine started to die out most of the apps “stars” moved over to other social media platforms like YouTube and Snapchat or continued their skits using Instagram. Jérôme moved over to other platforms too, but with a different purpose.

Through his YouTube account he spreads awareness and positivity with videos such as “EVERYTHING YOU WERE TOLD IS WRONG” and “THINGS TV WON’T SHOW YOU!” He puts things into perspective very well and has a way of leaving the viewer feeling happy- better yet, he leaves them feeling like they should do something to help out.

In 2015 Jérôme partnered with Liter of Light and promoted the #PEPSICHALLANGE to help light up homes in third world countries. (Every time the hashtag #PEPSICHALLANGE was used on Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube, Pepsi donated $1 USD to Liter Of Light). He’s traveled to places like the Philippines and Senegal to help install the light.

March, 2017 Jérôme tweets out about how Somalia is on the brink of famine and gets the hashtag #TurkishAirlinesHelpSomalia going. This goes viral and soon after the tweet, his friend Juanpa Zurita (who has also traveled on missions with Jérôme), Colin Kaepernick, Casey Neistat, Ben Stiller and others stepped up to show their support. His impact sent at least 60 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Somalia.

I’m not saying that being popular or famous comes with the responsibility of being an activist or a humanitarian, but it does come with the responsibility of simply spreading awareness- any human with a platform should be helping others. A single tweet or snap could actually improve lives (Jérôme Jarre’s Instagram post reached over 150k likes and this literally put light in thousands of homes.) It’s time for people with a platform to start realizing the impact that they have. The sooner they do, the sooner others get to see a better tomorrow.
