What We Know About Dina Ali, A Saudi Arabian Woman Who Escaped Her Abusive Family

Dina Ali Lasloom  is a Saudi Arabian woman who escaped her abusive family from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and attempted to flee to Australia in search of refuge, but was off-loaded at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and repatriated Monday Night.

Per request of the official from the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Manila, Dina Ali Lasloom was off-loaded from her Australia-bound flight at terminal 2 in NAIA.

According to Feminist Culture (twitter thread below), security at the airport detained Lasloom against her will and contacted her family to come and retrieve her. The Inquirer then reported that in a video from the NAIA, Lasloom was telling people in the NAIA terminal 2 lounge that they would kill her if she goes back.

Lasloom, after the arrival of her uncles, was violently assaulted. She was tied by her arms and feet, taped her mouth closed, and covered in sheets.

Her uncles then forced her onto a plane back to Saudi Arabia where she is likely to be killed the moment she is on KSA soil. Her family believes that she has shamed their family and is not safe once she is home.

Lasloom was made to believe that she was being connected to a flight that took her to Australia, but was in actuality being taken to a terminal that would take her back to Saudi Arabia. Boarding time for the flight had already initiated when she was handed back to embassy officials for the flight back to Saudi Arabia.

Tweeting #SaveDinaAli and contacting the airlines currently operating in Saudi Arabia helps in bringing massive attention to the violation of human rights performed. Urging the United Nations to take immediate action could save Dina Ali’s life.
