Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

The Purple Purse Campaign and Kerry Washington’s Involvement

To those of you who’ve never heard of the Purple Purse campaign, it’s a program that belongs to AllState Foundation and focuses on ending domestic violence and abuse through financial empowerment. Since 2005, Purple Purse has aimed at raising funds for hundreds of national, state and local domestic violence organizations in the United States.

The campaign provides life-altering services for domestic abuse survivors, helping them acquire the much-needed financial knowledge, skills and resources in order to break free from their dangerous situations and be able to rebuild their lives. Financial abuse is a huge concern for victims of domestic violence. It prevents them from getting, using and maintaining financial resources. Abusers tend to resort to isolating tactics such as preventing their spouse/partner from working or accessing a bank, credit card or utilizing modes of transportation.

The star of “Scandal”, Kerry Washington has designed bags for the Purple Purse campaign for the past three years. Yet, this year marks the first time in which she’s worked with “Aquatalia“, an Italian retailer in order to create a limited edition bag for Purple Purse.

In a recent interview with WWD, Kerry said, “I’ve been working to help end gender-based violence for some time, and fashion is something I’m very passionate about, so it was the perfect way to combine two areas of interest….”

The $595 bag has gone on sale exclusively at bloomingdales.com and its 59th Street New York flagship.  In addition, Aquatalia will donate 100% of its proceeds to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, where the funds will be distributed evenly to Purple Purse nonprofits serving domestic violence victims and survivors all across the United States.
