A Plant-Based Diet? The New Regimen for Permanent Weight Loss

The season of warm weather, sandy beaches and lazy days at the pool, is almost upon us, and what says summer ready better than getting rid of those love handles for good?

The CEO of Whole Foods, John Mackey, recommends a diet plan for weight loss that is not necessarily the most common in America . “When you combine the things our body naturally craves — whole starch foods (sweet potatoes, brown rice, beans, etc.) with fruits and vegetables — you can eat all you want and you’ll lose weight,” Mackey explains.

Along with almost 49% of the American population,  20 year old John Mackey was determined to shed off some pounds, after he diagnosed himself in a state of bad health. His first step was to cut out all animal foods from his diet. This included dairy, cheese, all meats, honey, eggs, etc. Very shortly, he reported, that he felt more energized and happier about his minor weight loss and physical appearance. But this wasn’t enough. Mackey’s cholestrol was quite high for his height and age, due to the grand amounts of processed food consumption in his daily meals. His health took quite a turn, when John discovered a book called “The China Study” by Colin Campbell. It’s detailed reasoning behind the benefits of the removal of animal foods and processed foods from daily consumption seemed to have changed his life forever. Both his cholesterol levels and weight resembled what he was as an 18 year old in high school.

But what if you’re just not a vegetable person? The Whole Foods of CEO can definitely help with that. John explains that he was never a vegetable kind of guy. Instead, he relished on big macs, burgers, and lots of cheese in almost every meal. But soon after his dietary breakthrough, he familiarized himself with the important greens he read about in Campbell’s book- kale, cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, etc. “Whatever you familiarize yourself with, you will come to enjoy. So why not teach yourself to love the healthiest foods in the world?”, he says.

With some weekly cardio and a flexible plant-based diet, John Mackey creates the ultimate weight loss plan, that even lets us sneak in a few candy bars here in there. And no, it may not be one that promises to get you beach ready in two weeks or less, but one that’ll keep your tummy full without breaking the zipper on your new sized down jeans.
