Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

What You Need To Know About Ramadan

With the holy month of Ramadan approaching, Muslims are faced by several inconvenient questions like “You’re not even allowed to drink water?”. In an attempt of raising awareness about Ramadan and stopping this flood of questions for a long time, I can safely say that yes, we’re not even allowed to drink water.

So, why do Muslims fast in Ramadan? It’s an action that purifies our soul and restrains us from sinning. It’s a month full of spirituality and prayers. It’s a time when we pray for our previous sins to be erased and try not to commit any more. We fast from before sunrise till sunset which coincide with Fajr and Maghrib prayers, consecutively. Restraining ourselves from food & drink as well as other pleasurable activities, in an attempt to detoxify our body and purify our mind and soul.

Ramadan is the month where families get together, charities prosper and people start giving more and doing good deeds more. Ramadan has the aura of care and empathy. Even though it’s a moral obligation for families to get together or for you to give money for charity purposes, Islam has made it a religious obligation to make sure that it happens at least once a year.

So the next time you decide to bombard your Muslim friend with weird questions like “Can’t you just have a snack?” Remember that no, we can’t have a snack either, and you should google those questions.
