Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Yes, America Is Still Racist – Here’s Proof

Let me guess, you’re color-blind, you don’t see any races except the human race and you love everyone as long as they’re a good person, right? In 2017, it’s basically impossible for people to be racist anymore because we’re all just coexisting and everyone is treated equally, right?

Try again. Racism definitely still exists today and it is far from going extinct. This past week alone, I came across multiple news stories where white people put their innate tendencies on display by demonstrating acts of racism.

I decided to narrow my results down to the six stories I found expressed the most despicable acts.

1. White Woman Harasses Latina Inside Walmart – May 24th, 2017

An elderly white woman decided to take it upon herself to verbally harass and offend two women of color inside a Centeron Walmart. Eva Hicks, a Latina, who decided to film the confrontation was searching for her medication when she was verbally attacked by the unidentified shopper.

The shopper tells Hicks to “go back to Mexico” and then calls a black woman a “nigger” when she attempts to intervene and break up the argument. The white woman then attempts to push Hicks away with her cart, all while attempting to defend her actions to a Walmart employee.

At one point, the Latina woman can be heard crying while the white woman calls her a liar and continues to spew racial slurs at her. The Walmart employee is eventually able to break up the fight by stating that Hicks “has every right to be here as you” to the racist.

Walmart released a statement regarding the event and are looking to identify the woman in order to ban her from returning.

2. ICE Agents Raid a Kitchen on the Hunt for Illegal Immigrants – May 24th, 2017.

Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement decided to raid Ann Arbor’s Sava’s restaurant but only AFTER eating breakfast.

According to the owner of the restaurant, Sava Lelcaj-Farah, five ICE agents entered the kitchen in the hunt for a worker who was not there at the time. Upon realization of the worker’s absence, the ICE agents turned towards the other cooks and demanded their documentation instead.

Three of the workers didn’t have proper identification with them resulting in their transportation to ICE’s Detroit office while in custody.

This would have never happened in a white family-owned restaurant. They degraded and embarrassed the workers of the restaurant simply because they were of Latino descent and they were at the wrong place at the wrong time.

3. White Woman’s Racist Rant – May 24th, 2017

An unidentified woman was captured on tape degrading and insulting a Latino man by calling him a “spic” and threatening that her husband (also Latino) would physically assault him. The woman goes on to say that she’s offended to hear him speak Spanish because “America. 2017.”

There has to be another side to the story, right? Surely, there must be a logical explanation as to why this woman would completely humiliate this man by throwing racial slurs at him, right? Well, the Latino man, who identifies himself as “Juan”, overheard the woman’s conversation on the phone and realized she was looking for another Sprint store in the area. Now get this, all Juan did to prompt her racist rant was advise her that there was indeed another store in their city.

In fact, you can see it all unfold in the video below:

4. Policeman Questions Immigration Status of Man Who Had Just Been Run Over by a Car – May 24th, 2017

(This event occurred April 27th, 2017 but was only reported earlier this week.)

A Honduran bicyclist, Marcos Antonio Huete, had just been hit by a car when the first thing police asked him upon arriving to the scene was if he was a legal immigrant. They didn’t offer him any medical assistance or see if he was okay, instead they questioned his legality, capacity to speak English and if he had any ID.

All this happened while Huete was laying on the ground mustering answers to the best of his capacity. The man was then charged a$75 fee by a Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles officer for “causing the accident.”

Whether Huete was in the wrong for causing the accident, he still got hit by a car and could have been seriously injured; he still has rights as a human being. In fact, Howard Simon, executive director of the Florida Chapter of the ACLU, stated:

“Asking for immigration status to a person after being hit by a car offends human rights sensitivity and is very counterproductive for effective law enforcement.”

Who would have thought?

5. Teachers Name Student “Most Likely to be a Terrorist” – May 25th, 2017

Lizeth Villanueva, a 7th grader, got a certificate during her school’s mock awards ceremony earlier this week with “Most Likely to be a Terrorist” printed on the front. According to Villanueva, her teacher at Anthony Aguirre Junior High laughed about the award and considered it to be “just a joke” because “she didn’t really care about [the student’s] feelings.”

The principal and administration administered apologies and stated that the teachers involved had been disciplined but that the incident was under investigation.

Naming a student with no past behavioral issues a future terrorist should be enough to get the teacher fired because if there’s anything that the Manchester attack has taught us, it’s that terrorism is not something to be joked about.

 6. New Orleans Principal Wears Nazi-Associated Rings in Video – May 25th, 2017

Crescent Leadership Academy Principal, Nicholas Dean had a video of himself surface with him wearing rings associated with white nationalism and Nazism. Furthermore, a photo of him posing next to a Confederate flag appeared days after the video had appeared leading in his dismissal from the school.

Dean was also featured alongside anti-Muslim, anti-Marxist activist Kyle Chapman in a podcast that defends Western civilization.

What’s interesting about this story is that the school Dean taught at had a predominantly African-American student population. Fortunately, those students will no longer need to walk the halls alongside a racist.

Now, in your defense, you may be saying that these are just a couple of examples and this doesn’t mean that ALL white people are bad. I’m not disagreeing.

I’m saying that by denying that racism exists in America, your lack of reality and anti-blackness/POC are showing.
