Summer on a Budget

If you’re like me, you love to make the most of Summer, whether that’s days out to the cinema or going on holiday, however, if you’re like me you’re on a budget. So here are a few tips on how to enjoy your summer, without destroying your wallet.

  1. Picnics are my go-to group activity: Each friend brings one thing (Sandwiches, Cookies, Crisps, Drinks etc) and then you settle down in the nearest park and just chat. Bringing a frisbee or a football can also be fun and this costs maybe £3, depending on what you bring.
  2. Another Park hack, I don’t know about other places, but near where I live there are lots of parks with tennis courts, basketball courts etc. Something fun to do is to go play tennis with a group of friends. If you don’t have rackets, they aren’t that expensive.
  3. If you’re lucky enough to live near a beach, go for a trip down to the beach for a day. Just remember to keep hydrated and wear sunscreen.
  4. Gatherings for BBQ’s are always fun, again assign people with items to bring, also have a bring your own bottle rule. If you don’t have a BBQ/Grill, the disposable ones are cheap (£1/£2) and they work perfectly. You could take these to the beach or the park as well.
  5. Sleepovers, Camp out under the stars in your back garden, you can make smores over candles (make sure they aren’t scented) and just chill out, telling stories and identifying constellations.
  6. If you have dogs take them on a long walk in the park or a forest. Fresh air will do you and your dog some good.
  7. Strawberry picking is a cute way of getting both some healthy fruit and some time to spend with your friends.
  8. Finally, try to explore as much as you can, make yourself a packed lunch and then head off to where ever you can. Grab one train and walk somewhere or take an unknown bus in a new direction. I wouldn’t suggest you do this alone, rather in a group.

These are just some of the ways that you can spend less and do more over this summer period. Remember Summer isn’t just about going out, especially for students, take a break, sit down and watch that box set you’ve been wanting to watch for ages. It’s alright to take care of yourself before exploring the outer world.
