Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

“Why Don’t We Have a Heterosexual Pride Day?”

Today I saw #HeterosexualPrideDay trending on Twitter and I started fuming, and you know why? Because it’s ridiculous, straight people don’t need a pride day because your sexuality is celebrated EVERY DAY.

Straight people don’t have to be ashamed of loving someone, being bullied, or being hurt just because of who they are and asking why you don’t have a pride day it’s like asking why there isn’t a white history month. By celebrating heterosexual pride day you’re mocking the LGBTQ+ community, we have been oppressed for years and we’re still fighting for our rights to be treated like normal human beings. In some parts of the world LGBTQ+ people are being killed just because of who they are, and you dare to celebrate “Heterosexual Pride Day”? Have a little respect for the LGBTQ+ community and don’t celebrate this thing. Pride was not born because of a need to celebrate being queer but our right to exist without persecution. So if you wonder why there isn’t a straight pride be thankful you don’t need one.

One day in my history class we were discussing same sex marriage and one of my favorite teachers said she accepts gay people but she doesn’t agree with them adopting children because she thinks these children deserve a “normal” life. What is a normal life? Would you rather put a kid shelter alone than letting him be adopted by a gay family who can offer financial support and unconditional love? If you’re worried about these children being bullied at school for having gay parents why don’t you teach your own children tolerance and compassion. No one is born homophobic, homophobia is taught.
