Poor, Sick and Republican: Trump Voters Have a Big Storm Comin’

Donald Trump’s presidency has received a substantial amount of negative press, such as Russia’s involvement in the lead-up to the presidential election, however more recently POTUS and GOP have received a tidal-wave of backlash due to health-care policy reforms. The GOP health-care bill in line to replace Obamacare also referred to as ‘Trumpcare’ would remove the Affordable Care Act. The new health care bill would also allow insurers to charge a much higher price based on age, including a greater premium charge for those in their 50’s and 60’s, as well as a greater premium charge for those that have a lapse in insurance coverage.

“Generous, kind, with heart. That is what I am saying,” Trump said. “And that may be adding additional money into it. We are going to come out with a real bill, not Obamacare.”

A disconcerting area of the bill experiencing a highly concerning lack of attention by the public eye is the subsection which restricts federal support for Medicaid and permits states to require able-bodied adults to work, despite the non-physical disabilities which affect a huge portion of adults living within the United States.

The ultimate spectre representing the turn of events was the performance displayed by the Democrats after the final vote, leaving with a few waves accompanied by a unified sing-song of “nah nah nah nah hey hey hey goodbye” directed at their Republican colleagues as they believe the vote will lead to many of the GOP lawmakers losing their seats in the November 2018 midterms.

Earlier on this week political youtuber Farhaan, known as PoliticsOnTheMarch on his youtube channel offered some further perspective during our discussion on the matter. Farhaan stated, “At the end of the day, no matter how Conservative voters are, if you take away their healthcare and make life harder which is what this bill will do, as well as actually kill people by throwing them off their insurance meaning they can’t get the treatment they need, those people are going to be very angry and GOP will suffer in elections.”

The irresponsible pursuit of this bill adds further damage to GOP’s support base, the train wreck of events that have occurred both during and prior to Trump’s presidency have been hugely damning to his presidential image. This bill was an opportunity to to set in stone a positive legacy under GOP aside the disastrous controversies that have taken place, such as Russia’s legally ambiguous involvement in the political affairs of the United States.

Farhaan continued our discussion, summarising the future of the relationship between GOP and the United States as a result of the the health care bill as, “They’re going to be putting a lot of their own supporters in the situation where they have to decide on food on the table or insurance. The cuts to Medicaid are the absolute most drastic, an 800 billion dollar cut is going to decimate the poorest states (which actually are solid Republican), such as Mississippi which relies a lot on Medicaid… Older people especially are going to suffer from this bill too-again their own supporters! The bill only has 10% support from the population, yet GOP is obsessed with getting this destructive bill through just for the sake of putting a middle finger up at Obama and the democrats, which will hurt them badly in 2018.”

The matter of the fact is: GOP health care bill would leave an extra 24 million people uninsured by 2026 than we saw under Obamacare according to the Congressional Budget Office.
