A graphic video shows Chikesia Clemons, a young black woman, being grabbed by the police and shoved to the floor. Visibly unarmed, she is choked by three white, male police officers. At multiple points, they pull her dress down, exposing her breasts. When Clemons asked what she had done, the police officer said, “I’m ’bout to break your arm, that’s what I’m about to do!”
The horrifying encounter was videotaped by Chikesia’s friend, Canita Adams.
This display of police brutality occurred at the Saraland Waffle House. The Alabama Chapter of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) released the following statement:
“Mobile NAACP President David Smith said he and other members were disturbed by the wat the Saraland police officers handled Ms. Clemons during their encounter at the Waffle House Around 2 a.m. this morning. Ms. Adams captured the incident in video and pictures with her camera phone and posted them on social media. Both women are slated to appear today during the local unit’s monthly meeting.
““In light of the current situation in our country—such as the arrest of two young black men at the Philadelphia Starbucks coffee shop—we felt it was important for our members to get first-hand account of the incident, which has now gone viral on social media locally and across the country,” Smith said.””
The Saraland Police Department is currently investigating the incident. Chikesia’s mother, Shaquita Clemons-Howard, is pursuing justice for her daughter.
