How to be Productive While Working from Home

Most of us who can do their work from the comfort of our homes now have to work from home, like it or not.

Working from home is both a blessing and a curse. But just because there are bad sides to working from the comfort of your own home, it doesn’t mean that you should accept them. Quite the contrary, working from home can be a very productive and motivational thing.

You have to know how to manage your work, keep on top of stress, and overall keep those tasks organized. So, we have quite a lot to cover in this article, from managing your daily tasks, to how you can adjust your tech to keep your sanity, even if you’re inside your home for weeks. And a secret trick that we’re going to give away right here is to pick a pair of blue light prescription glasses for you to ease the strain on your eyes.

Set up yourself a small space that’s dedicated only for working.

One of the most important things you have to do is set up your own working space in your home. And if you don’t have one already, you should spend some time separating a dedicated space for it.

So, you will have to focus on a couple of different things when it comes to making a dedicated working space. First and foremost, you will have to make sure that your working space isn’t taking up a significant part of the room that you’re working at. Given that you will have to add it to your living space, it’s essential not to keep your workplace at the forefront of your room.

That means no laptops on the kitchen table and no work in bed. Keep things separate. Just because you’re spending all day long working from home, it doesn’t mean that work and home shouldn’t stay somewhat separate.

Make sure that you keep a normal working schedule and don’t go over your limits.

And while we are on the topic of keeping things separate, we should definitely talk about how you should keep your work schedule as it would be when working from the office.

Yes, you will have the added benefit of not commuting to the office, and it’s okay to start a bit earlier and finish earlier as well (that is, if you’re not on a set schedule). Still, overall it’s best to start work when your colleagues do and finish when you usually should.

Working from home can easily extend to you working a couple of hours overtime, so make sure that you track how many hours you work per day.

Routines can help you really stay productive, even when everything starts feeling like one long day.

And while you’re trying to stay within the eight-hour workday, you can try sticking to your daily routines. That means that your breakfast with the kids should stay email and laptop free.

This goes for your morning jog, going to the store, or any daily rituals that you have. It can be tempting to look at your phone during lunch break, but if you want to keep your sanity while working from home, it’s only in your interest to stick to your routines.

So, block your calendar and don’t let anything work-related get in the way of you sticking to your routines.

Filter out blue light as soon as the sun starts setting down to keep your rhythm intact.

When you have to spend a lot of time in front of your computer screen, you typically start hurting. This happens because of one of two reasons.

First, you focus your sight on a single point that’s near your face, meaning that your sight is focused closely, straining the muscles of your eyes. You can help alleviate this by taking two to three minutes every hour, staring at something that’s far away outside.

Secondly, this happens because your eyes get strained by the blue light emitted by your computer screen. If you’re working on some of the latest Windows 10 and macOS, then you should have the ability to turn on a setting that automatically filters out the blue light.

If you use an older computer, then you can download a free program called .Flux and have it control how the lighting on your laptop works.

Add some stretch sessions in between tasks because the amount of time you’ll be spending moving will decrease drastically.

Finally, always make sure you add a stretch session or two during the workday. That’s how you will keep yourself from feeling fresh, especially when you start feeling like you’ve been doing the same mundane task for five hours straight.

It’s something that can even fit into your daily workout routine. After all, the most important thing is to keep yourself healthy and motivated.
